We are expecting #2 I am in charge of picking a girls name, OH is for a boy( of course we both have to at least agree even if its not a fav) What do you ladies think of this name for a little girl?

Anais (pronounced Ann-eye-eece)

I live in the US, and I know no one with this name. I love it, OH isn't super sure about it and MIL hates it. My middle name, mothers, grandmothers, and my great grandmothers first name is Anne, so Id like to have Ann be somehow incoporated in the name. I have absolutely no other girl names that really stand out, or that I even remotely like right now but I am worried because it is not a common name here.

I'm sorry but I agree I'd have no idea how to pronounce it and even written out it still seems difficult to say. I also see the "anus" similarity and that alone puts me off.

My friend called one of her twins Anais but due to the point Moma Ali has made she Now uses her middle as her first name. They changed it After about 3 weeks because they got a lot of negative comments including the anus one 😕
Also they pronounced it Ann-ace. I don't think people would pronounce it as you are hoping.

I love the name but it's one I'd never use because I'd be too scared that kids would call her Anus. The way you have written the pronunciation is correct but I think people wouldn't know how to pronounce it and would assume it was An-ay or something like that.

I think it's really pretty so i get why you'd want to go for it. It's just the potential for teasing that decides it for me.

I have met 2 girls named Anais, both pronounced ann-ay-us. I think it's OK, I didn't think "anus" when I heard their names, although seeing other people say it I can see why people would make that connection (unfortunately!)

I've only every heard it pronounced Ann-a which I love.

I've never, ever connected it with "anus" and I have a ton of Aden + Anais products so have seen it quite a lot over the past few years.

I think it's a lovely name, it looks pretty written down and when pronounced correctly, but I think for non-French speakers the pronunciation would be really difficult. It's one of those names I think people would probably still mispronounce even after she had clarified. I could see you having to get used to it getting a bit simplified (like Ann-ice).

Thank you all for your input! I didn't even think about "anus" but of course kids will be kids! I guess I have a while to think about which name is perfect!
