Just seen a midwife and while going through my notes, I've noticed that in the box fifths palpable, she's written 5/5. So far this box has always been left blank so it's the first time I've seen something written in it. I know it has something to do with baby's head being engaged, but does it mean she's fully engaged at 5/5 or the opposite? I'm confused!

palpable means 'moveable or free' so thats how many 5ths of the baby are not engaged/free. fifths engaged is the other way around :)

The way to remember is they usually say they will palpate your stomach to feel the baby, so thats all about the movement.

I wouldnt read too much into it if its not your first as they say baby engages during labour when its not your first :)

And here I was getting all excited, thinking it meant she's fully engaged! Lol. Wishful thinking..

Yep as the PP said, it means head isn't engaged :) palpable means how much of baby's head they can feel outside of pelvis. When baby is 5/5ths engaged then that's when baby is fully engaged x

Yup as the others have said, means baby is head down but still able to jiggle around happily down there.
