I had 2 sweeps as I didn't want an induction and my due date was getting close. The day of the second sweep I fell asleep at 10pm and woke at 11:30pm with cramps. I had no idea what to expect as it was my first. I called our local medical nursing line to ask if it was real labour and the nurse said, " well does it hurt dear" me "oh yes", her "well good luck to you, you're going to have a baby!" and it hit me that it was all happening. As the pain got worse I moved into the shower and the contractions almost disappeared in the warmth of the water. I had to turn the shower off in order to time them. Then when I turned the water off I got hit with one that was waaaay painful and told DH to pack as we were going to the hospital. That was 2am. My OB said that's probably when the transition was happening. Then they took forever to check me in and I was begging for drugs holding onto the bedrail when the epidural lady finally came in at 6am. Once I had that I needed 3 top ups and then things were great. At 7am my water broke naturally and at 7:30 I gave 2 pushes and she was out.
My OB said to get in earlier to the hospital this time so we can get set up before the major pain starts, I'll have an epi, it was the best thing ever with DD and with twins if they need to turn the second baby around they'll be going in to guide baby out from below and I certainly want to have pain management if that has to happen.
