What happens if I nurse only from one breast all night?

We cosleep and I have found it easiest to just roll over when baby wakes and nurse her while I doze. She has about 2-3 feeds through the night and I also put her to sleep with the same breast. Essentially I am not using my right breast for around 10-12 hours. Will this be bad for production all the time? Should I try to alternate at night as well? I always did before, I have only been doing it this way for the past few weeks. Baby is 3.5 months.

I did this. I'd just feed from my right breast one night, left breast the next night.

I had to pump the "unused" breast first thing in the morning though as I was so engorged and my LO would throw up if I fed her from it because it was too much.

It shouldnt affect your supply but if you want you can roll halfway and position yourself to feed with the other breast too. Its really hard to explain and took me a couple of weeks to figure out but i can now feed from both breasts keeping baby on the same side.

I need to figure this one out. Had major oversupply on right side and left side hardly made any until i started laying on left side until DH comes to bed.

I do the same as staralfur - I pump the unused side in the am to jumpstart my next days milk stash for her ebm feeds while I'm at work :)

I have never had to pump in the morning though I do get a bit engorged. Baby usually just eagerly slurps it all back first thing. She gets a big ol' breakfast! :)

I know what you're talking about. That position is tough to get into! It probably works better with certain breast size/shapes than others but maybe I will just keep trying to get it... It took me a while to learn to nurse on my side so I guess it makes sense that this position would also take practice!

Thanks for the answers, everyone!

I do the same. Very convenient.

How do you balance like that?! I struggle enough just getting into position with one side, I have to get DH to lie so that my body stays in place!

I used to do the balancing act and offer both sides. Now I do as other posters have said and pump first thing in the morning. It's my "just in case" stash :winkwink: A person never knows when it may come in handy :flower:
