What Hospital are you giving Birth at? And why did you chose them?

I'll deliver at Baylor in Dallas. I love my OBGYN and he delivers there. The hospital is supposed to be "mom-friendly" and "baby-friendly" and that's important for me. I was a volunteer at the hospital that's closer to my place and the nurses were not friendly, babies were in the nursery with restricted access, etc. I want a different experience so I'm willing to travel a bit further. Their NICU level III was a big plus too.

I'm very lucky to live 8 miles away from the Rosie Maternity Hospital in Cambridge, one of the biggest, leading units of neonatal care in the country. Knowing there are so many experts on hand in the case of complications is reassuring. They were fantastic when I had my daughter, and were very respectful of my wishes for an epidural x

I'm between 3 big hospitals but not really in the area for any one then however anyone from the NE of England will know that there is a rivalry between the major cities, DH being a Geordie I couldn't pick Sunderland, or middle rough so I picked durham university hospital which is meant to be fantastic.

With DS I was based on a small island and didn't get a choice, never want to go back there.

I'm from the north east. I'm team RVI all the way! Couldn't fault a single thing. They are amazing I would never go anywhere else.

I'd would have loved to be a the RVI as my DS has been there for specialists but didn't get the option, DH was born there. Unfortunately we're on the wrong side of the river lol.

Royal Preston Hospital for me. Half a mile away. Safely delivered my daughter there and best place for high risk

I'm having this baby at Whiston hospital in the NW. I had my other 3 at Warrington hospital but wasn't happy with DS2's birth so thought I'd try the other hospital this time.

Salisbury District Hospital (SDH) for me. Its also where I had my son. I think its great there
Iv also had experience with Bath Royal United (RUH) and I hated the place! The only good thing they have going for them is a VERY good SCBU/NICU.
Im an hour either way to each hospital but id pick SDH each time now x

Royal Preston Hospital for me too. I'm hoping to use the new birth centre x

Im having bub in same hospital as my first.St George's in sw London
It is at the top of my road.driving it's about 60 seconds away!!' couldn't fault them for the midwife led care I had last time.hope it's the same again. !!'

I'll be having my baby at the Rosie, I'm so relieved to hear you've had a great experience with them. :)

Qa Portsmouth for me. My other two were born there too x

Im having my baby at basildon hospital, iv had all my babies there and i didnt even think you could choose, thats the one im under because its the closest, it has terrible reviews but i couldnt fault the midwives who delivered my babies :) they were so friendly and good at their jobs

The birthing centre at Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury for me. First baby so no idea what it is like but the hospital has been great for scans so far. Only 7 miles from us so seems to be the most practical option.

We've gone for darenth valley hospital main reason being its the only one local to me (literally round the corner) 3 other local hospitals shut their maternity units so this one is the only one this side of kent... The others are quite a drive away!

Surprisingly I'm not 100% happy with this.... Naively this thread is the first I've heard of being able to pick where you give birth (other than at home). I wasn't treated exactly great when I had Isabelle by them :(. I was induced completely unnesacarily (sp) there because they read my notes wrong and left for nearly a week with no support or medical intervention by any care provider there... Refused any pain relief! Induction failed and then left two weeks till I begged for a csection :(.

Only positive this time is that... Since then a couple of my really good friends have recently started there as midwifes and have reassured me and Tom that they will take 100% care of me! Even put themselves down to be on call every night around the time I'm due as I'm desperate for a natural birth this time x

Me too. Its my first as well and I've had no complaints when I've been for scans. I picked it as it is only 5 miles away where other hospitals are a lot further. No idea what the reviews are.

Glad I wasn't the only one who hated the RUH

We had to go for extra appointments before I was even 12weeks for testing as CF runs on OHs family. They were always 1.5-3hours late for appointments and after my 12week scan they had messed up and gave me somebody elses notes - they rang me and told me to burn them :dohh:

I'm with you bluefairy. I live in Aylesbury so stoke mandeville is a lot closer than any other option. It's not a great hospital, I'm pretty sure it's still considered to be failing but they have all major services on site and quite modern delivery suites. I really want to stay at home as long as possible though, so wouldn't fancy 45 minutes to the next couple of options. To be honest I'm not sure how much difference the hospital makes. I had my first at Stoke and wasn't impressed but People have varying experiences.

I'm at East Surrey Hospital for the second time, they were brilliant at managing my 2nd pregnancy so really happy to be there hopefully 3rd is just as good xx

Highhopes - sorry you were treated so badly last time. If I was you I would consider asking for an appointment to go through your notes from last time and discuss what happened and why. I'm sure you are more informed second time around anyway though and will be questioning any decisions to induce or similar. But you might find it helpful.

My sil had two babies at darenth valley and was really pleased with the care she got whilst in hospital.
I hope you have a better experience this time.

Whereabouts are you in Kent? (I'm Bromley so going to the PRUH but I know the rest of kent quite well too). I know they have closed a lot of maternity units in the area over the years
