What if waters break in bed?? Will mattress be ruined?

I don't know why I haven't thought about this before but if your waters break in bed is there really no way of salvaging your mattress??

Is it worth buying a waterproof matters protector or am I just totally over analysing things, lol!

Any thoughts welcomed from those of you that have been here before

For me personally they broke my waters at the hospital, but I do have a waterproof mattress cover on my bed, mainly because my 3 year old sleeps with me a lot and sometimes pees the bed. They really arent that expensive and if you are worried about it, wouldnt hurt to invest in one, as you may need it down the road anyway

My waters broke in bed as I turned from one side to the other, to be honest although it was a huge gush as it popped the majority soaked my pj's and I pretty much jumped straight up out of bed as I wondered what on earth it was. Some did soak through the sheet to the mattress but not enough to ruin it.

As I get nearer to my due date (even though I'm having a c section) I'll be putting a couple of towels under me when I sleep just incase. I personally wouldn't bother with a mattress protector or anything, if it happens you won't be lying there in it, you'll be up pretty fast! Most of mine like I said ended up soaking my pj bottoms then as I jumped out of bed, on the floor!

I bought one as our mattress wasn't cheap (bed is super kingsize) and i'd hate to have to replace it. It was £10 from eBay and is plastic but with a terry layer so it doesn't feel sweaty or anything *lol*

my waters broke on the bed at hospital. nothing gushed out though until i stood up. i don't know if that's the same for everyone.
i'll be using bed pads (normally for incontinence!!)

I've just got some waterproof mats from Tesco, they're with the maternity pads, just going to line my side of the bed with them just in case

I've got a waterproof pad on my half. It's kind of annoying because everytime I get back into bed I have to rearrange it, but I'd rather deal with that then have to spend hundreds of bucks on a new mattress

I have thought about this. I have a 4 yr old who sleeps with us sometimes. The last time she peed in the bed was when she was 3 yrs old, and now I wonder why I never had a waterproof mattress cover to begin with! I will be getting one soon, as I don't want to have the water ruin the bed if it happens, and I also will have it for later use if baby is ever in bed with us (baby will only be in bed with us after one yr old mark, or not at all).

Have hospital pads on my side of the bed just in case. Recently bought our bed not going to risk messing it up.

My OH and I use a waterproof mattress pad all the time, just in case something gets spilled, a dog pees in the bed, someone wakes up and vomits on themselves, and especially now in case my water breaks in bed. Don't get the vinyl kind or anything. They actually have cheap ones that are just like regular mattress pads, and it will keep your mattress looking brand new! Definitely a great investment.

My home insurance claim is just going through at the moment....I didn't get a neat little gush more a tidal wave so pampers sheets & a plastic sheet would be a good move!

I bought A waterproof mattress protector, was £20 but it's an expensive king size mattress I'd be gutted to stain it! Have a cheap normal protector over the top then fitted sheet and u can't even tell its on the bed. Better safe than sorry lol. I've started putting a towel on the car seat too now! Xx

We have one of these on our bed anyway, as we were getting a lot of spillages of lucozade (OH is Type1) during the night from random night-hypos and I wanted a matress topper/protector anyway. Ours is from John Lewis and unless you were told you wouldn't even know it was a waterproof one!!

I have a waterproof mattress protector which cost 7 pounds. Didn't want to risk ruining the mattress especially if my waters have blood or meconium in them x

Oh good idea! I hadn't thought of it but our mattress was pretty expensive so I don't want to ruin it!
