What tests?

I know from TTC in 2009 that my GP will fill out lab forms and off I go to the local hospital who draw the blood and then send the results back to my doctor. It is the same for DH's SA.

Not sure if the GP can organise the ultrasounds or hsg or if we need referring for those

Yeah I'm not sure why my GP couldn't requisition the lab forms for bloodwork so I'd have the results already before going to my specialist appt. I did bring her my charts though which showed apparent ovulation and she said that would be as good as any test they would do for ovulation.

This is only my second month charting but last month it definitely showed ovulation

Hi Hun,good luck with all the tests, this is my story regarding tests: wen I first went to my docs after nine mc's she just did blood tests and I really didn't know wot they all were but they all came back normal ,I then spoke to,my midwife who was by now a good friend and she told me to ask to be referred to a gynae in my local hospital, she said he was the best in the business,I waited for my apt for a few months ,then wen it arrived I had more blood tests for me and dh ,they didn't check dh's sperm as I had been getting pregnant regularly, then another wait for results, that was wen I was told I had sticky blood syndrome, everything else was normal, also had a camera inserted in my womb to check all was well and it was so was sent off to just keep trying ,took me another full year to get pregnant that was nearly two years from I first went to the doc,am now 6 weeks pregnant and so far do good :happydance::happydance:,am taking 5mg folic acid and 75 mg aspirin ,also injecting myself daily with clexane ,,these things take a long time and u need to keep pushing,I am lucky as I have a lovely gp and knew the mw ,it was a long process and i did have to keep pushing, and make phone calls but it was all worth it in the end,go armed with as much info as u can and good luck lovely,I know u can do it,let me know how it goes ,xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi there
Apologies if I'm repeating what anyone else has said, just wanted to share my experience ... My GP didn't send us for any tests (I don't think he can, I think it needed to be done in the hospital), he referred us to a fertility specialist at the local hospital.

After meeting with her, she sent us for blood tests (which seemed to be standard: FSH, LH, HIV, rubella, blood type etc - but no AMH - I don't think many NHS trusts do this; also I requested a 21-day progesterone blood test); ultrasound scan for follicle count; and semen analysis.

We then met with her to discuss, and only then did she send me for an HSG (where they put a liquid or something up your uterus and tubes to check for blockages etc - gives them a good clean-out, apparently, and increases fertility for 3 cycles afterwards). So I would highly recommend that you request to have your HSG at the same time as you have your bloods, if that's possible, it seemed like an unnecessary delay to me in hindsight. All in all this took about 4 months, and that's even with me speeding up the process by ringing the clinic regularly for cancellations to move our appointments forward.

Good luck!

Sounds like you've had some great advice there just wanted to wish you good luck. :)

I was also curious why you wanted DH's blood type? Was this in case your future baby might be Rh pos if DH is? I'm also Rh -ve and at no point during the pregnancy were they remotely interested in DH lol.

The blood test is due to me being Rh -ve and not sure what DH is and I know if he is positive there can occasionally be issues. I know on a first pregnancy there shouldn't be but DH is due for some blood tests for his diabetes at the beginning of July so FXed that the doc will put the extra one on for us :)

We did start testing back in 2009 and I got a day 21 test the first cycle after speaking to the GP and DH has his SA at the lab within 48 hours of us requesting and results about 10 days later

Just hoping we can get bloods and SA done fairly quickly to give us more of an idea. It could be some of the tests (rubella, chlamydia, etc) may not be required as I am a blood donor so not sure what they test for each time I donate but I do know HIV & the hepatitis are checked.

Thankfully I have been able to get an appointment with a GP who does listen and has been excellent in the past so feeling positive at the moment :)
