Tomorrow I have booked in for an early reassurance scan as I have had a lot of pain and just want to check everything is okay.

I don't want to go to the EPU as I don't think its an emergency and don't want to take time away from people who have serious concerns.

What I'm wondering is, what are they likely to be able to tell me? If my dates are right I should be 8 weeks so hopefully I will see a heartbeat, but will they be able to tell me how far along I am?

Would love to hear other people's experiences of private early scans.

Thanks for reading :)

Hi, I had a scan last week after some spotting. I thought I was about 6weeks and they confirmed it and they picked up the heartbeat straight away. I got a picture of the scan and little bean is tiny on it but you can just about make it out. Good luck with your scan hun.

They usually measure the crown-rump length and work out your EDD based on that, so you should get an accurate date. I had an early scan with my last preg and they were great, sadly ended in MMC but I am grateful I now have photos to remember them by. xx

Yes they will be able to tell you how far along you are. The two main things they do are 1) check the pregnancy is viable with a live embryo in the right place 2) take measurements for early dating. If you ask they might tell you the heartrate, but you don't really need to know that, just that it is within the normal range.
They should be able to perform the scan externally at 8 weeks but they may need to do an internal scan if they are having trouble getting measurements or if the baby is hiding from them.

they should be able to tell you how far along you are. you may alsosee a little heartbeat as well as the food sac.
