what type of gel to use for doppler?

just wondering if it matters what type of gel you use for the doppler? could i just use lube??

hey i use lube lol its great or my hubbys hair gel but he got funny wiht me wasting it so i stick to lube xxxx

Anything works - I used just water or sometimes a tiny bit baby oil

i read on one on ebay baby oil is ok to use too but at work we sometimes u KY wich is very simular as its water based

Isnt it meant to be ultrasound gel for safety reasons? you can get it pretty cheaply from ebay/amazon x

safety reasons-never thought of that im not sure lol i just brought myself the angel sounds doppler for 50 and it doesnt come with gel so pharmacys sell the ultrasound gel ?? or if anyone knows is there any safety issues with not using ultrasound gel?

I might be wrong, I just thought it was something to do with ultrasound waves? Maybe just get the ultrasound gel for reassurance? x

Its not a safety issue, more a clarity issue, but ultrasound gell can be bought really cheaply online at amazon. I got like four bottles last pregnancy for a couple dollars...much cheaper than your husbands hair gel!!! !

just checked about the gel and ultrasound gel is normally used to make it easier for the doppler to glide over tummy and it helps to pick up the babys heart rate..there are no health issues with not using ultrasound gel..but found out that your only ment to use your doppler THREE TIMES FOR MAXIMUM 10MIN SESSIONS A WEEK so didnt know that..

Thats fab - didnt want to worry you but just incase thought it was better to query?

They dont know how much is safe? I used it daily with my daughter literally to find the hb for reassurance and then turn it off, so 3 mins max? never used it for 10 mins in one go x

yeh spose every websites different with whats right amount and whats not lol!! ill prob be the same wont be able to help myself but check that bubs heart is still beating lol!! dont think i would listen to it for 10mins either..i just want to check BPM as scan showed HB but she never told me..is it hard to find the HB? did you find yours easy?
