hi there i was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advice im a single mum who is about to return to work after being off on maternity leave and my working hours will be dropped from 35 hours to 20 hours to work round my little one and nursery. my wage will be £115 now rather than £201.25 before tax n NI which will mean over the year i will be down about £4500. What will i be entitled to and how much? Will I still have to pay full rent on my property as currently i dont get help with anything jst my smp and the tax credits. Sorry if i seem pretty clueless but this is all new to me and have never claimed anything before and I was told the less u earn the less working tax credits you get and im worried im not gonna be able to afford things and nursery for my little one as I am on my own with no help :(:(

thanks for any advice given x

I'm a single mum and I'm entitled to Child tax credit, housing benefit and income support. I think you will be entitled to some child tax and working tax, possibly some housing benefit and you may not have to pay all of your council tax as I know single parents are exempt but I'm not sure how much you have to pay if you're working. Sorry not much help!

hi im also going to be a single mum, and i have been researching what id be entitled to, go to entitledto.com they are quite good. if you are working, you will get child tax credit and working tax credit, and you will get help with rent and council tax. to qualify for working tax credits you need to work 16 hours a week, not sure about amounts though, it may be backdated as im sure you can apply for working tax credits while on maternity leave, as you are still classed as an employee, although could be wrong there. it all seems so complicated, i was advised to see citizens advice who could tell you exactly what to apply for

xx

I'm a single mum, working part-time making around £100 a week wages. I get full child benefit which is around £22, working tax and child tax credits which is around £127 and I along with my tax credits I get a further £120 a week for Kyles child minding fee's.

You should get a small amount to help towards rent x

thanks that sounds liveable :) no more need 2 stress x
