Hi,

I've heard people say after the first 2 weeks it gets better, others its months, im curious as to what the overall feeling is?
When did you find it got easier for you? Whether it be better latching, shorter feeding times etc.......

Thanks!

I think it was about day 11ish for me - my nipples were no longer falling off and her latch had improved and feeds were a better length :)

The only problem I had were the sore nipples at the start and it lasted 14 days with my daughter and 10 days with my son. After that it was pretty straightforward.

Thanks ladies :)

Im on day 8. Latch is improving, im just waiting for the feeds to get a bit shorter. ...hopefully!

I found things got a bit easier around 2 weeks as nipples weren't so sore and latching on was easier but I also found it was heaps easier after about 6-7 weeks when the feeds seem to become more efficient and both baby and I seemed to know what we were doing.

Great question hun
I'm interested in the replies too.

After around 3 weeks. I had problems at first with sore and bleeding nipples, and then I got mastitis in both breasts. It was a difficult start, but hang in there because it gets so much easier!

I had pain till wk 11 but that is unusual I think. After that it was easy...

Right around 2 weeks things got tons easier!

It was around 3 weeks for me. The soreness in my nipples was easing off and I felt much more confident with getting him to latch properly.

My little boy just turned two weeks and it's definitely a ton easier than it was in the beginning! We're getting the hang of things now and it's rare that my nipples are sore anymore. It's nice being able to pop him on the boob and not cringing at the pain when he latches!

Thanks for the replies so far! Its really encouraging to know im hopefully not too far away from things getting easier. We have attempted our first outing today, only to the park but im currently sat in the car with lo in my boob! DH H as had to take dd1 to play and I haven't made it there yet :-( hoping this is a short feed!!

It was nearly 3 months for us but we really struggled with a bad latch and I had mastitis three times.

I think had we not had those issues I would've enjoyed things much more after the first few weeks once I settled into the frequency of the feeding.

Mine got easier stepwise. It was super hard in the beginning

4 days: started nipple shield, got a lot easier with no more pain and my nipples healed
3 months: got a lot easier with baby sleeping a little longer instead of waking every 1-2 hrs
4 months baby fed a total of 4 hrs a day instead of 6-7 hrs so it got a lot easier
8 months baby came off the nipple shield and feedings halved in time so it got a lot easier

Mine also got easier in stages but we also had our difficulties at different stages too.
Easier at 6 then 10 days, then 6 weeks, then 12 weeks then 6 months.
But we also had teething, nursing strikes, too much interest in the world not feeding etc etc.
Xx

It got easier for me after three weeks but I had issues with flat nipples etc. I still get days were it is uncomfortable but my health visitor said it may be down to my cycle xx

At 2 weeks We finally got consistently good at latching, and that made things easier.

By about 6 weeks nipple soreness was totally gone. I really started to be able to get on with life a little. lol. He wasn't nursing ALL DAY anymore. That was surely helpful.

7-8 weeks was when he began sleeping quite a bit more. 6-7 hours at the beginning of the night. The fact that i was able to get at least a little bit of REAL sleep everyday was a dream come true! (not that i'd ever get more than 3-4 hours because i was constantly anticipating him waking lol)

Ever since then, things have been golden!

Things will get a little better every day. Promise.

About 3-4 weeks for me. I had extremely sore nipples 2-3 days after her birth, after crying in agony each time she latched on (consulted 5 midwives and BFing consultants, and her latch was fine except for her sucking in her cheeks which simply could not be corrected regardless of what we tried!) I tried nipple shields and started pumping when she got tired of the nipple shields and was not draining my boobs well. It seems the problem was in the vile Lansinoh cream which I started using from day 1, it was so slippery that poor baby had been struggling to hold on to the nipple well and as a result had started sucking in her cheeks, squeezing my nipples and making them raw as a result. They improved tons when I ditched the cream, and instead massaged expressed milk into them - did wonders! I'd say refrain from using such creams and simply use your own milk, it is so healing!

Things have just started getting better for me, which is day nine :)

Six weeks and we have never looked back, bf for us has been amazing and something im so glad i stuck with. As they grow you will find so many uses that you never thought of for example if lo is ill your milk can help and often makes for a quicker recovery, the comfort it can give lo, it truly is a precious experience.
