When did you start solids?

I don't know if anyone has any links or more info but when I was going through weaning with DS1 there were "talks" that recommendations were going to change to 4 months for FF babies but remain as 6 months for BF, not entirely sure why, I've heard the virgin gut theory being batted around as a reason but I didn't think that was widely medically accepted?

The virgin gut theory? That sounds horrible..

We're planning to start on purées at 17 weeks. Interestingly unlike other uk health visitors, mine recommended baby having 3 meals a day BY the time they're 6 months, and said due to him having ALOT of milk all of the time, more than doubling his birth weight, sitting on his own (freaks me out!), having two teeth and slamming his hand on my toast and proceeding to eat his hand (while she was here lol) that she was more than happy for me to go ahead. He'll only be having fruit & veg though, gradually building up. I have a weaning guide from cow & gate which has helped me figure out what to give him & how to introduce meals.

Luke has doubled his birth weight, doesn't quite sit on his own yet (he does just fine in his bumbo chair) but holds his head up perfectly fine.

Lol it was just something that was spoken about when I was last BF, that it is best if a baby's gut has nothing but breast milk for the first 6 months if BF to really utilise the benefits of BF, but I haven't read anything about it this time no one seems to mention it so I am guessing it's not really supported anymore. Although it was only something I saw on the internet anyways, no medical professional mentioned it.

OH ok lol I was like good lord that sounds awful!

I do have another question.. can you skip the rice cereal and just go straight for purees?

If waiting till 6 months can skip purees and go straight to finger foods

17 weeks tomorrow. The minimum suggestion for uk. Will be puréed with a bit of formula to make it thinner x

Yeah Luke will be 17 weeks a few days before his four month check up and I had planned on talking to his pedi about it then to see when we could start.

I think that you know when your child is ready. It'll be good to talk with your pedi, after having the go ahead from my health visitor I felt much better. Good luck!

Thank you!! I *feel* like he's ready but I always second guess myself lol

I sat kiddo in his highchair at the table with us before yesterday. I had planned on putting a lil carrot puree in a bowl with a spoon just to let him play with it and explore... He pretty much stuffed his face with it. He was literally licking the bowl :haha: I was very surprised as he's just 5 months old but he had been showing signs of being very interested in food. That's why I figured I'd let him play with it. Now, after seeing that, I think I'll take on a more proactive role in his weaning and take it slowly. I had tried rice cereal but that was way too harsh on his tummy so that's a no go. However, he did superbly with the carrots and he was thrilled. I want to try giving him a largish floret of broccoli at some point.

Yeah we tried the cereal and he doesn't seem to be too thrilled with it :-/

The minimum they recommend is 17 weeks hun so I really would try and hold off, especially if baby didn't like it.

I forgot to add, I asked his pedi at his follow up appointment and she said we could try it, or else I wouldn't have :p

But yeah, I'm definitely going to hold off for a couple more weeks.
