Ive heard that you dont have to tell your employers that your pregnant until your about 5 months gone (or 19 weeks before your due) does anyone know if this is true or not?

I work for a job agency and I'm worried that when I tell them I'm pregnant (TTC in feb) that the contract will conveniently be canceled or something so I'm thinking of telling them as late as I can so that if they do fire me I'll at least have a few months to get the things we need for the baby and hopefully save up as much as we can!!

Thanks xxx :)

at least 15 weeks before your due date is when you have to inform them. Bear in mind that if you haven't told them you cannot have paid time off for antenatal appointments, scans etc.

Oh it's 15 weeks before your due is it? Yeah I realise I wouldn't get paid for appointments if they didn't know!!

WSS ^^
the latest you can tell an employer is 25 weeks pregnant. You aren't safeguarded before you tell them though so it's a gamble - although if I was worried I would be got rid of I'd probably wait too! You don't get your MAT B1 until after 21 weeks so can't claim SMP until then anyway.
