Hi,

So I've been wearing pads everyday since birth (the baby's, not mine lol) and I hate them, they're horrid, they make me feel smelly and dirty and gross and like I'm 13 again - sorry, no offence to anyone who wears them by choice :P) I've been keen to use tampons from the get go but knew that wasn't an option because of possibility of infection - also my mum politely told me I'd be so big now they'd probably fall out  how rude!

Anyway that awful lochia stuff has finally come to an end about two days ago and I appear to have started my first period pp today, ace :dohh: do we think it's ok to use them now? I'm 7 weeks pp and had a c-section (not sure if that affects how likely they are to 'fall out' lol thanks mum!!)

If anyone mentions the 6 week check up...I need to add that I have never been told anything about a 6 week check up from the hospital, doctors, midwives or health visitors so I guess I don't get one!? Literally the first I knew of it was from everyone on bnb having them!!

I was going to say the 6 week check up! Lol!

I'd say at 7 weeks pp coupled with the fact you had a c section you'd be ok to use tampons, but I'm no expert. As long as you're comfortable down there and haven't had any issues with infections etc following the birth.

Yeh I've been fine, dtd a couple of weeks ago because nobody told me not to :dohh: lol and everything was fine. I'm starting to take it personally that I was never offered or even told about this bloody 6 week check up lol.

My lochia (sp?) stopped at 2 weeks, I started my period 3 days ago and have been wearing tampons, its stopping now so not bothering. I had a VD and even though my mum said I would need a bigger size...(what is it with mothers?!) The normal regular size still was fine  Going to my check up tomorrow, prob won't tell them I have used one as I don't want a lecture, OH and me already did a test run so I don't think a tampon would make much difference. :dohh:

I'm with you on the smelly dirty gross pad thing lol Unfortunately for me my foof is still not functioning and even using tampons are an agony so I'm stuck with the pads :(
I think you'd be fine to use tampons! Just keep an eye out for any signs of infection or maybe even just wear a pad at night? My lochia stopped at about 3 weeks but started up again at 6 weeks x

I used tampons straight away I got my period back 6weeks pp. I suffered a 3rd degree tear so was very scared about anything going 'up there', but I hate wearing pads it makes me feel unhygenic. And the tampon hasn't fallen out so I wouldnt worry! :haha:

If I were u I would start using them right away unless I had an infection
Ps. I hate pads too

My LO is 18 weeks old and I still cant use tampons my periods are too heavy, I'm wearing TWO PADS at a time :( I'm hoping now I'm back on the pill they will lighten up in a few months.

I would wait until you get your first proper period and go from there

I'd say now is fine to start using them.
I had a vaginal birth and had my pp check up at 5 weeks and had sex at 5 weeks pp and doctor said if I was comfortable using them "if" I started my period then I coud. Still havent had a period but im not expecting it any time soon.

My doctor told me to wait one cycle before using tampons again and I was told this by two different doctors with two different pregnancies. I was told using them prior increases your risk to toxic shock syndrome and severe infection.

I just had my 6 week pp check up and was given the go ahead for tampons! yay! and I had a csection as well..

I used pads (I think they're gross myself) for my first AF (very mild/4 wks after) and for the second AF, it was so heavy, I decided to use tampons, but um...they were slightly uncomfortable down there, so I used regular and changed them more often....but did use pads at night.

I don't know why so uncomfortable as I had a c-section, but I was told that since it was my second AF after birth, it was safe!

best wishes
