Just wondering when's a good time to get my LO's playmat out? When did everyone else's LO use theirs?

A friend with 3 kids of her own told me 8 weeks, so that's what we did. But it seemed waaaaay to early for my kid. She'd lay on her back but didn't seem interested in the hanging toys, and as for the mat itself, well, she loathed tummy time so she wasn't too keen on that, either. :haha:

She started to be more interested in it around 10/11 weeks, but that's just my kiddo!

I just got it out every now and again at about 3 months. He wasn't interested before then. Now at 6 months it's out all day as I'm fed up of putting it away lol we play with his toys on it, he wriggles on it and generally enjoys it a lot now.

I started laying my LO on it quite early, maybe 4 weeks, with one of those high contrast picture book thingies tied on top (quite sturdily). She'd stare up at it but no reaction but I suppose that's to be expected!

They might not seem very interested but that's probably because they can't see much of it. No harm in trying it though :)

I say try early because every baby is different! My LO lost interest in hanging toys by 3 months! Now we have to shake them in front of her face for her :) We didn't have a playmat at your LO's age but we did have a bouncer with dangling toys, and she looooved it then, but she was a very alert baby. (Born 16 days overdue, I think that had something to do with it.)

Oh, and what kind of playmat do you have? We have the Lamaze "space" one and I think it is meant for little babies. The toys hang really low and once they start kicking and such it isn't very practical. Their feet can get caught! I am wondering if ours would be interested again if we got her a bigger, taller one.

We had a playmat baby gym thing with dangling toys but LO was never really interested, I couldn't put her down until she was around 4-5 months old! All babies are different though, mine only enjoyed it from around 4-5 months but I know a lot of babies start earlier :flower:

I have a bright starts animal one, got it from Asda in their last baby event. It's very bright and colourful and not too low so I think it will be ok:D

Around 4-6 weeks. She wasn't interested in the toys until 2ish months but the lights above were a big hit! She oo-ed and aah-ed at it, was so cute. :)

Fin's been down on his since 5 weeks, he loves it. He'll lay for as long as you let him kicking his legs and waving his arms around. From 6/7 weeks he really got interested in the hanging mirror and this week will grab a toy if you put it in his hand.

Definitely try it as he's loved his from an early age

X

I used it after 3 months either way LO wasn't interested lol x

Rory went on his at a few days old. He's always been really alert ans showed interest really early on. At about 2 weeks old he was trying to get the elephant that dangles off it. Xx

Mine wasn't into hers until around 4 months, but as you can see it's different for every baby!

I put mine under hers from newborn, she would love to watch the lights and listen to the music, she now grabs and plays with the hanging toys.

Hahah apparently I'm really weird, we used ours for Tummy Time right away!!

i used it from newborn. Got to get your moneys worth i say! :)

She used to lay on it for quite a while in the early days looking at the dangly stuff and lights and then went right off it. Shes just getting into it again at 3 1/2 months.

Just put Finn on from three Weeks, he's pretty alert, also really overdue (11 days), wonder if that makes a difference? He lies and kicks around, and stares up, but that's it so far!

My dd used hers from newborn. By about 3 1/2 months when she started rolling, we had to stop using it because she got her feet tangled in the bars.

We used ours right away. He seemed interested in the lights and sounds by around 3 weeks, hanging toys by maybe 5-6 weeks. I have pictures of him at 4 weeks old smiling on his playmat, he enjoyed it really early on. I agree with the pp who said get your money's worth, because by 6 months the thing had to be packed away; he had zero interest after that because he was too busy crawling around the room.

We had it out from day 3, when we were discharged from the hospital. We used it instead of a bouncy chair. LO outgrew it at 6 months when he started to sit up.
