When to get your baby fitted for shoes?

OMG cruisers? walkers? whhaattttt??????? as you can see I havent even thought of shoes yet - eeekkkk anyone fancy posting an idiots guide? *off to google*

I'd only get my little ones feet measured when I think they were walking enough to need shoes outside, otherwise like someone else said, barefoot is best :D

I'm completely clueless too. I completely skipped the cruiser phase and have never bought shoes for her. So I know she doesn't need cruisers but I don't know what exactly she needs. :dohh: I worry I'll somehow screw up her feet if I don't pick the perfect pair.

I wasn't going to get cruisers but we go to the park nearly every dy and LO uses his walker there. I didn't fancy his bare feet on strange grass :/

We got LO fitted with Clarks "crawlers" the other day  They have flexible yet supportive soles, and little rubber bits on the front to help her "grip" when she's crawling (or something!)

I tend to have her barefoot, even when I'm out, but she is starting to want to walk more holding our hands. It's not always suitable to have her barefoot when we're out, so I wanted to make sure that the shoes I had fitted her properly. I was glad I got them done professionally, as the shoes I'd have picked would have been way too wide for her across the toes, and I probably wouldn't have realised

Aisling has been cruising for about 4 months now and it's only about 3 weeks ago that we got her fitted for proper cruising shoes, up until then she was wearing these soft leather ones

It was only when she really wanted to be walking with our hands outside that we decided to get the cruisers, it's best for their feet not to be in 'proper' shoes for as long as possible.

It's really important for their feet to be properly fitted, it's not just the length but the width as well and I'd hate for Aisling's feet not to grow and develop properly just because I didn't take the time to get her fitted

ill leave rhys barefoot till he needs outside shoes. x

My kids walked in barefeet until it was necessary for them to need them outside. Barefeet is best.

Completely agree!! My kids have all walked before one but never had shoes until they were old enough to walk outside when we went out, so at least over 18 months

I still walk around barefeet in the house!

Did you let them crawl barefoot round parks and such? I just couldn't do that, I need some protection!

Ive never let them crawl outside apart from the garden. If i went to a park id put socks on them and carry them round putting them on swings or sliding them down slides etc. It never occured to me to let them crawl on the floor. Yes putting shoes on may protect their feet, but what about their hands?

I let Ruby crawl on the grass without shoes but we got cruisers when she started wanting to stand up with her toy golf club!
I agree about getting them done professionally, who would know how much room there should be etc?

Toy golf club, thats so cute!

toby wont keep anything on his feet not even socks! if we go to the park he has barefeet and will crawl and pull himself up (obviously i check there is nothing untoward around!) he wont be having shoes until he can keep them on his feet lol x

Ozzie is kind of cruising but I haven't got him any just yet. I'm going to wait until he gets a bit more confident on his feet.

Niamh has a pair of Clarks cruisers as she is up and walking, but I only use them outside if she's on the road. Inside or on grass she doesn't wear anything.

Shoes that aren't just fabric should always be fitted 'professionally'.
