I have ages until I get married but was wondering when everyone else sent out save the date cards? I was looking at starting mine (making my own, I think ) after Xmas to send out around March 2011 so they would be about 18 months before. Is this too soon?

We get married in October and we sent our first lot out last week

xxx

I think 18 months is a good time. You can never really send them out too early if you're for sure set on your wedding date and any info you're sending. That gives people plenty of time, so hopefully no excuses! haha

If you have a lot of people coming from overseas, then giving them over a years notice is good. Otherwise, 9-12 months is the usual x

Our wedding is 14 months away and we're sending them out straight away once everything's booked with the reception venue because people book holidays and things around now for next year so never to early. Then send formal invitations about 4 months before wedding.

I sent mine out last week and we are getting married in September. We have told people in advance of this though.x

We are getting married in October and I popped ours in with the Christmas cards! A good way to save on postage

I was wondering the same but as we're getting married in September (and we know a lot of people we want to come often go on holiday late Aug/ early Sept), I'm sending them out within the next few weeks. (also making my own )

Oh, to clarify, it's September 2011 so people will be booking their holidays for next year soon and I want to send out the cards before holiday's are booked!

Wow. I thought we were early sending out our save the dates 7-8 months before the wedding... and we got married abroad so a good 100-odd people had to book flights, too.

Instead of cards, we sent out save-the-date magnets so people could keep them in view on their fridges. Many people still have them on display lol

I never did any for my wedding as the whole thing was planned in 6 months (no reason why) but my chum is getting married mid march 2011 and I just received save date card for that last week, hope that helps :)

I love the magnets, did you get them from zazzle? I got a few samples and i'm really chuffed with the quality, not too expensive either! I'm nearly finished designing mine! We're sending ours out 12months before the wedding xxxx

We got the magnets from vistaprint (made sure not to sign up to their scammy reward programme) and they were fabulous.

Everything else - invitations, wedding list/directions cards, place cards came from zazzle. You're right - the quality was indeed very good. We had some large colour blocks including one entire side in orange and there were no stripes or anything. They all came out perfect! :happydance:

Good luck with everything!

not even thought about that yet but as i havnt booked i havnt needed to

but my uncle is getting married mid october and i got my save the date card early feb xxx

We're sending our save the dates out 12 months before wedding too, bargain 25 save the date magnet cards for £11.25.
