Hi there mummys :happydance: i was just wondering when you have all started to ween your baby??? healthvisitors all say different and im just a little confused lol x x:wacko:

Definitely not before 17 weeks and ideally not until 6 months (26 weeks).

I personally waited till 6 months and then did BLW.

Hope that helps!

im waiting till shes six months.
not everyone waits though i think its a personal prefference, but i wouldnt start under 4 months old....

Guidelines say to try and wait till 6 months.
Some babies are ready between 4-6 months. I wouldnt suggest trying before 4.

Was planning on waiting until 6 months (in 9 days time), however, Thomas began to wean himself the other day by grabbing a chip off my plate, squeezing the potato out and eating it!

as Rhys is bottle fed I am waiting till he is draining 9oz bottles and is still hungry

Thats so cute

I decided to wait until 6 months - which is tomorrow for my son. I'm not going to rush it and planning on trying blw xx

Iv started last week my lo is 4 my lo tomorrow

Saw my HV today and she strongly recommends waiting until 6months so that's what we will do altho my mum wants to start weaning her now but I'm happy to wait
xx

The World Health Org suggests that it is best to wait until 6 months.

We planned on waiting until 6 mos but DS was trying to grab food off our plates and put it into his mouth. We tried BLW about 5.5 mos and it was brill! He's 8.5 mos now and eating food like a champ.

Even if (when you're ready) you don't do BLW...I would still suggest reading up on the concept as it has lots of helpful GENERAL weaning information. It answered a lot of my questions and gave me lots of confidence in trusting LOs cues.

Im starting aiden after my hols he'll be 4.5 months only on odd purrees etc v v slowly - simular thing happened to me my mum shoved her finger in cream cos he was watching her have a hot choc and he LOVED it watched and waved his arms at every next sip LOL oops xxx

what is BLW?

We're going to wait until Isaac is 6 months or at least until he is emptying ALL of his 5 x 5oz bottles!

We had planned on waiting till six months. But we've been going very slowly for a couple of weeks as I was struggling to keep up with him. He's on purée's in the morning and is a much happier baby.

BLW is Baby-Led Weaning.

You basically skip purees and all the mush and go straight to proper solids and finger foods. The baby basically self-feeds from foods they can handle (i.e. cooked carrots, broccoli, melon, etc.) or pre-loaded spoons and the benefit is that the child is the one in control of their eating, thus reducing a lot of the common stresses of "traditional" weaning.

They don't always eat the food right away, but it starts out as more about exploration of textures and tastes in their proper forms.

I started at 4 months and on HV advise and then stopped as she wasnt ready and started agagin at 5 months. She is 6 months now and on 2 meals a day. Going slow. Signs they are ready are
Holding there head up well unaided
taking an interest in food
Trying to grab food.
Not being satisfied by just milk (not to be confuesed with a growth spurt)

You will no when your LO is ready. But not before 17 weeks
