When your waters brake can you...

i was told to take baths when in labour with ds and to not worry if my waters went , I ended up having my waters only go 45 min before he was born though as i stood up to get out of the birthpool as we called it quits on using it as the heat was making me too tired, so if id stayed in the pool theres every chance he would have been born in his waters.

At my unit we advise if your waters break to come that way you and baby get checked and a speculum to confirm SRM (Spontaneous Rupture of Membranes). We don't perform internal examinations on those with rupture membranes unless necessary. If all is well you go home to establish and for comfort etc we recommend having a bath. You are then booked in at the 24th hr approx to come back in if nothing has happened.
