Anyone recommend a baby forumla from birth? i was going to go for SMA gold but read a few reviews saying it made their baby sicky/pooey/windy, anyone using cow and gate? as that is what my sister used for her baby. Really undecided on which to get!

I use soy Similac and it's working great. I used soy Enfamil for my son because he would projectile vomit and have horrible gas pains (well, his tummy would tighten up and he would cry hysterically) when we tried milk based formula. After switching my son to soy, he never had any problems. So I figured I'd skip straight to soy this time around! My baby hasn't had any issues with spitting up and she poops every other day. So I'd say so far, so good! :flower:

I use cow and gate. It's the cheapest I think. Logan is brilliant on it. He poo's 1-2 times a day normally, brings his wind up perfectly. Is super content and drinks it like its going out of fashion. All of my formula feeding friend use it. One uses the comfort milk by them (for the wrong reasons though!)

I use Aptamil just because all my family who ff reccomended. My l.o is thriving on it, her poos are regular and no problems with sickness, she did have problems bringing up wind for the first 2 weeks, but she's fine now :) only downside is its expensive, but I'd only change if I had a problem xx

See I've been told its basically exactly the same as cow and gate. Made by same people in same factory.. Can't believe it's more expensive!

I've heard this as well, I wish I'd researched formula more and tried cow and gate but she's doing so well on Aptamil I don't want to make her tummy sore xx

I use Hipp organic, my baby is doing very well on it.

I just liked the idea it was organic, and it is the only one with probiotics, I switched from breast milk to hipp no problems. Best thing is to do some reaserch and see what you think. Base line, they are all the same, just some have added benefits, and I personally thought hipp had the most, I'm sure others may well feel differently.

I started of on SMA gold but Iona was really constipated with it. She's now on Aptimal and is doing great! I told the HV and she said even though they aren't allowed to tell you what formula to use, Aptimal is the closest to breast milk and its more expensive because its more 'gourmet' as she put it so it was the best. She said that's why Iona's poos are smellier now, because the milk is richer. The price doesn't bother me, as long as she is feeding well :) xx

We use cow and gate - although we didn't make an active decision to choose it... it was very much a "we need to fit a NG tube to feed her and we need to get some formula to put down it - we have SMA or C+G in - do you have any preference as to which we use?" Since I was by then utterly totally shellshocked by going in to have stomach pains checked out, finding out waters were leaking, going into full-blown premature labour, having an awful birth and then having to meet my baby while she was in an incubator... I wasn't exactly in a decision-making frame of mind and just told them to go with what they felt to be best - and we continued it when she got out of hospital as she was doing well on it.

It's also very well-stocked locally - even our tiny little corner shop carries it if we got utterly desperate and stuck unable to get the car out from snowmageddon or other random apocalypses.

Aptamil, I started with SMA, moved to cow and gate and then a HV suggested I try aptamil (my baby was/is a pukey baby) but she took to aptamil straight away and I think it helped a lot xx

I started off on sma gold but my LG was puking that up and was very twisty inbetween feeds and her wind was awful.. so at 9 weeks changed her to cow and gate and she loves it and isnt half as twisty and isnt bringing up her milk anymore

I use cow and gate have had no problems with it so far ;)

My lo will not take sma or cow and gate, she will only take aptamil

All formula has the same base mix, it has to by law so no formula is better than another. However, they all have different blends of prebiotics and LCP's. So Aptamil is not the same as Cow and Gate. It has a different pre biotic mix. Some babies will get on better with Aptamil, some will do better on Cow and Gate. Neither is better than the other but they are different. I'm an Aptamil user for both of mine, it's been brilliant for both of them.
