So I had my 6 week check today and I was prescribed cerazette.

I was on Microgynon for 15 years before I had baby but I can't have a combined pill anymore due to migraines with auras.

I've been reading some horror stories online about cerazette and don't know whether to take it or not now?!

The doctor also suggested the coil or the implant, would really appreciate any other ladies experiences with any of the three mentioned. I've been told yasmin is the best pill to go on but doctors don't like to prescribe it because its expensive?

I have the mirena. I had it for @4 years before trying to get pregnant and had it put back this week.

I had the same problem (migraines) with the pill which is why I went off of it. DH and I use NFP now. We've been using it for 14 months and love it :flower:

I guess it means not during fertile period?

Cerazette buggered up my cycles totally. Would be very reluctant to go back on it.

What is nfp?

Natural Family Planning :) It's basically when you chart your temperature, cervical mucus, and cervical position to determine when you're ovulating. If you're ttc you can then have sex on the days you're fertile, but if you're not trying (like me) then you can use an alternative method or just abstain from sex altogether. I use a diaphragm on my fertile days :flower:

If you can't go on combo pills then why would Yasmin be an option? That's both estrogen and progesterone. I know since I took that for a while. I hated the pills. Used them for a year and a half. Never again. I did the nfp with temperature charting cervical position and mucus for 2.5 years for contraception plus the pull out method. The only reason we got our surprise is because we were less than careful when we knew we should have taken more care.
I will use this again when my cycles come back.
I highly recommend fertilityfriend.com an excellent tool for this and educational. Spend the $45 or whatever it is on the full memvership. It's worth it and cheaper than buying other types of contraception!

I didn't realise yasmin was a combined too. It's not an issue of cost, contraception is free in the UK

I don't think I could risk natural family planning, I need to know there is actual contraception at work.... I totally respect and envy those who can do it though.

Well, I got Mirena in april of this year and I posted a little about my story under the "another mirena story thread" yesterday. It has totally changed my life... in a bad way. I am having it removed on the 19th!! I will NEVER go with anything hormonal again:nope:. I don't really think I would choose the paragaurd IUD, just because I haven't heard great things about that either.

DH and I have discussed this alot, and we have decided to use condoms for a while after I get the mirena removed, until my cycles regulate again. After my cycles come back I am going to get to know my body better and use NFP. On my fertile days or "unknown" we can always use condoms.

Another option we have thought of is buying a fertility monitor (they are expensive, but you wouldn't have to use birth control). You can use it to prevent pregnancy, to get pregnant, and to test for pregnancy.

I never really imagined I would be going this route, but after seeing all my life how hormones affect me, and knowing all of the risks involved, this is my last option. And I think it will be nice getting to know my body a little better.:flower:

I don't know anything about cerazette, so can't say anything about that.

DH is having a vasectomy! I was on Dianette for years and it agreed with me but Doc doesn't like to prescribe due to risks of DVT. I also had the injection at one point, which just made me eat like a horse. My periods stopped then when I came off it (stopped having the injection) I had the most horrendous period known to man. I think it's different strokes for different folks and what works for someone else won't necessarily work for you. I'd like to know how to do DFP but can't take any chances. We were using the pullout method  however that's how I accidentally fell pregnant with DD2. Hope you find something that suits you xx

Well I've been on cerazette for the last 6 weeks, found it to be ok. No side effects so far, no weight gain and no mood swings which I was worried about. I also had a 2 1/2 week bleed at the start but nothing since apart from a little spotting when one pack ended which I assume was my normal period time.

I was on the pill before I got pregnant and had horrible side effects. I can’t do hormonal birth control anymore I just don’t feel right about it. I’m half-heartedly doing NFP because I’m breastfeeding and haven’t had a period yet. I’m just checking cervical mucus because my temps have been all over the place. If I don’t get pregnant in the next two years than hubby will get a vasectomy.

I was thinking about getting LadyComp or Pearly to help with the process.

I've just had the implant put in at my 8 week check. I've heard lots of horror stories about it but thought I'd give it a go anyway and see how I get on. No side effects so far, but as I'm still breastfeeding I haven't had a period yet so can't really comment on that. It just seemed the best option for me, no having to remember to take pills and I'm covered for 3 years :) x

I was using NFP and the Lady-Comp. Its a fertility monitor that is highly sophisticted. They say as long as you use it daily, it prevents pregnancy almost as much as the IUD! With that said, i realize not all women are into that sort of thing and want a "no think, no worry" approach to birth control.
Personally im going to be getting the Mirena next week. Beyond needing it for birth control, i have a hormonal imbalance and its one of the only ones that can help treat that. (low progesterone). I like that i wont have to think much about it and i can have for as long as i like (well up to 5 yrs but if i want it longer i'll get a new one), or i can take it out next yr if i want.
Before my MC i was BCPs...im not going back on those ever again (but again, thats cuz it made my hormonal imbalance even worse-wrong hormones for what i needed) but it did work. the only side effect i had from that is i gained weight and i could not lose weight no matter how hard i tried, but again thats symptoms of my hormonal imbalance.
Another option could be the copper IUD. It doesn't use any hormones at all.

I used cerazette with no problems for 5 years until all of a sudden I had bloating, massive boobs and nausea. I was 8 weeks pregnant?! No idea how because I always took it.

I was on Yasmin before, came off it a month later I was pregnant, I'm back on that now as it works fine with me.
