Our 2nd baby is due in early March and we now know for sure that it is another little boy.
Our first son is called Noah (and his Japanese charactrs are 希明 which is his case is read as Noa)and this name works well in English and Japanese although it is definitely more "girly" sounding here in Japan but this did not bother us.
We have a huge name list but getting my DH to agree on one is so difficult- getting names that are easy to pronounce in both languages is sometimes a bit hard as some names my husband just can`t say properly (which means the majority of the population here would ALSO have trouble) and others sound funny in Japanese or English. Since our first son has a more Western sounding name we think we will probably do the same with out second although it still needs to be easy to pronounce in Japanese and we have to be able to assign Japanese characters to it as my DH insists one child can`t have kanji if the other doesn`t.
Some names on our list
Shion (pronounced shee-on)
Joji (pronounced georgie)
Kion
Reo (pronounced with the "re" sound like in rest followed by "o" in Oliver)
Oscar
Hamish
Caleb
Tobias
Kenzie (not sure if we could do characters for this but I like the name)
Rory
Riley
Nikolai (Niko)
Finn
Tai
Tomoya
Mason
Bodhi
Aiden
Sora ( pronounced like sorry but with an "a" instead of "ry")
Remi
Teo (Kind of like Theo)
Mateo
Augie
Henri
Eli (Like in Elijah)
Raiden (The Rai makes Ry sound like in Ryder)
Bailey
Rai
Kian
Hayden
Kouta
Kenji
Kouri (Pronouced like Cory)
Rudy
Reegan
Do any stand out to you as good names? Our surname starts with M, has four syllables and is Japanese. For us we always put the name together with surname first as it is done in Japanese to see if it sounds right.
So far my hub only likes Sora (which means Sky in Japanese), Kion and Teo but he may come around and some of the others I haven`t mentioned. I do not have a clear favourite at all (although I wanted to name our first son Shion but my husband said no, and has pretty much said no this time around too)
