Who goes to the gym?

Ive been going but im not actually sure what im doing :lol:
I know i could ask the instructors but my gym is pretty crap, its just the machines in the room and thats about it.

Ive been shown how to use the machines but thats not what i mean, more im not sure what im meant to use to get the results i want.
Im mostly just looking for weightloss atm.

Any ideas/suggestions?
 
I have bad ankles & knees so can't take too much impact.

I do the following:

20 mins cycling
20 mins cross trainer
20 minutes rowing
10 minutes sit ups, toning, stretching etc

although I started at 10 reps of each and built up.

Cross trainer is brilliant - all over workout and burns calories really quickly!! The bike is good too, I find that the easiest to do, but I don't think it burns the calories off as quickly.

if you can run, my SIL raves about the treadmill but thats not for me at all lol

I do :) Where are you looking to lose weight, and what's your current fitness levels? What are your problem areas?
 
Problem areas: Bum, tum and thighs :lol:
To loose weight: the same areas really but also just a general weight loss.
Fitness levels: pretty crap atm, the most i do is prob 30 min walk 5/7 days. Im looking to go to the gym 3 times a week (need to get the motivation!)
 
Oooh I'm gonna watch this thread :) I go to Curves and do a walk daily.. I'd run but I look like an idiot!!
 
You should be able to get a programme done at ur gym? They will show u what u need to do to get the results u want? What gym do u go to? I would definatly ask, all i have been to, do programmes.
 
If you're looking to reduce your bum, tum and thighs then you need some gentle weights combined with cardio workouts such as:

- treadmill
- cross trainer
- bike

For weights, i'd advise doing 3 reps of 12 on lightweight equipment that will target those areas. Usually it says on the info what each one does :)

(My FIL is a Gym manager lol and he's just put a program of those things together for me as I want to lose weight in those areas)

Thye do but my particular one seems to be short staffed atm so theres no-one about to ask. The person who does the induction is on reception duties so i had to go to another one to get it done. I can go to the other gym for a programme but i need to wait untill i can get to it (its not local to me)

repetitions :P

eg if you do one sit up, thats one rep, two sit ups 2 reps etc

As above, each time you do something thats one repetition. So lifting something and putting it back down is one repetition. My FIL always advised that I do 12 reps, take a break for a few seconds, do 12 more, break for a few seconds, then a final 12 :)
