Everything went well today at my Us. Dr said all good. But now I'm home looking at pix and my Us (my avatar) looks like baby has a black hole?? What is that?

Babies all have a soft spot when they're born. The plates of the skull don't fuse until much later on for the skull can look incomplete.

That's the brain. Lol you want that there for sure ;)

Also want to add at my scan we had a shot like this and asked what it was, ultrasound tech said it was the brain.

I'm sure if it was a big black hole the sonographer would have picked up on it Lol! But yep I always end up analysing my scan pics when I get home! I do remember seeing a black area in my daughters scan picture too and being worried!

My scan from yesterday at 13+2 looks like one of my twins has an extra foot coming out of its knee, the wrong way ha ha, again. . . I'm sure the sonographer would have picked up on that!!!!

Lovely picture, Very clear

Such a beautiful baby Jcliff. If you're very concerned, can you call your specialist and ask about it?

i call her for everything i feel ridiculous lol in some of my us pictures theres nothing. shes been monitoring me since 5 weeks, i would think she would tell me if something looked off right? I have my 12 week US with the OB on Wednesday. Everyone I ask says its either just a shadow from the US or the brain. its not completely black, like gray.

I really think your fine and it's the brain. Only a couple more days and you can ask the OB

They're supposed to have the black spot. It's the beginning of the brain. I think they'd be concerned if it WASN'T there.

ok good. thanks all :) its crazy how i can stare at the US pictures and find things to be concerned about even if the OB says all is fine!

Don't feel bad. I'm just as crazy and I'm willing to bet most of the ladies here are too :headspin:

In my 20 week scan we were able to see the bladder, the heart, etc. and they all looked like black holes. I'm assuming the brain is going to look like a black hole too and whether or not you can actually see it on your ultrasound will depend on the position of your baby when the photo was taken. If there was something wrong they would tell you so try not to worry. :)

My sister's friend literally had a baby with a hole in the skull. Needless to say, she was not sent home with copies of her scan photos and was told more or less on the spot. I'm pretty sure because your baby is laying with its head closer to the probe than it's body the probe did a cross section of baby's head to give you a shot of its brain x

Don't worry, I know it wasn't the doc who did your scan but they would not allow anyone to administer an ultrasound if they were not trained in picking up a huge hole in the baby's head :haha: It's a lovely shot :)
