Why is the top of my pumpkin burning slightly...should it be?

Right guys...this is the first time i have carved a pumpkin by myself ...why is the lid of my pumpkin burning?...have i done something wrong or should it be? x

I think they do a little sometimes x

It's supposed to I wouldn't worry heat from the candle rises and cooks the top, and after a while over cooks and burns it x
