a all in one coat, like the one pictured?
My baby is due in may, now i know the weather cant be predictable, especially no where in the UK, but i dont want to buy one for new born/0-3 and him never wear it. are these sorts of coats for winter when its like freezing outside? i dont want to buy him one, put it on him when its maybe a bit chilly or raining outside and him get too warm...
but my mum said he will need one, the weather is starting to warm up abit now, and is forecast to get warmer in the coming months, i personally dont see why he would need one..
what do you think?

No, I wouldn't buy one for a May baby. Layers are best so a cardigan and then blankets is far better, easily removable when you come inside to prevent overheating. One of my babies was born at the beginning of May and only ever had a light cardigan on.
This baby is due in 2 weeks and I have bought one, but only because I was expecting her to arrive at the end of march as my last 3 arrived that early so end of march can still be unpredictable! But I won't be using it now x

Ds1 is a May baby and never had one, ds2 is a Feb baby and I never got him one

Thats what i thought, my OH gran has knitted a few jumpers and that too, i cant see him wearing them that often unless we have a really bab summer..
i was thinking maybe one of the all in one coats, but not thick, but like u say its best to have something easily removable, and ive also been told by lots of people 'you put one extra layer on baby than you have on your self' which is usually the blanket or a vest...

also another question, may sound silly but im a FTM and had people tell me or give advise differently...

do i need to put a vest on under a baby grow?
a vest being the first pic, baby grow being the 2nd x

I thought it was pretty normal to put a vest under a baby grow, i always think that the vest like helps keep the nappy in place, i know thats not what its for LOL, but then people have said theres no need to put them underneith, i suppose its a case of you can or cant, your decision i suppose x

No no need for the all in one coat. I've always put vests as the first layer for everything, even now my baby still wears a vest every day x

I'd say no. My daughter was an early Feb baby and we never used one of these, when she was first born or this past winter either. I never quite understood what people used these for. You can dress them warmly in a sleepsuit and vest and cover with blankets if you go out in the pushchair or the car. We do wear our daughter in a wrap quite often, but even then, we usually leave any coat off her and just wrap a jumper (of ours around her bottom half), otherwise she gets too hot. In May, definitely I'd be concerned about overheating! We always dressed in a vest under a sleepsuit/babygro. Depends what temp it will be in May and how warm you keep your house, but you might not even need all those layers by then. My daughter was sweating in just a short-sleeved vest last July.

I had an all in one suit for my lo who was born in January but I wouldn't bother for a May baby.

I always put a vest under my lo's babygro but I know people who don't, its really up to you.

I dont think you need the coat.
The vest I would put under unless its very warm when I would just have the sleepsuit,in very hot weather I uses to have just a vest and a light blanket on them.

I don't think you need the thick all in one thing for a summer baby. My LO is an August baby and we got given one that wasn't too thick, and it was just right for going outside in the winter months, but if we went inside, like into the shopping centre he would overheat, so it was a bit of a pain undoing the poppers etc to cool him down.

We have never put a vest on underneath a sleepsuit. DS is actually quite a warm baby and finds 2 layers like that too much. But my sister always puts a vest + sleepsuit on hers. It just depends on your baby x

I have a summer baby and we certainly didn't need an all in one coat (she was born during the heat wave). We found it useful in winter, though, when taking her for long walks outside.

She nearly always wears a vest under her clothes.

I got one cor the going home outfit for February. Not used it since!
Was a bit of waste of money to be honest. A cardigan or hoodie, sleepsuit would be much better and cheaper, plus blanket to go over baby in car too.....

They grow so quickly too, give it one wear and zoom too big for it!!!

I wwoulnt by a snow suit (the all in one) my babies both had them but they had most of winter to get through. I put vests under babygros.

I had a July baby and never used it. Obviously May is earlier but I'd definitely say that a sleepsuit with a cardigan/coat should be okay. If you use a pram you can get a blanket and if you babywear they'll be right next to you so probably warm enough anyway. Can always add an extra pair of socks or soft bootees if it seems a bit chilly. I am in Leeds too so obviously we have the same weather and I'd say it'll probably generally be around the same temp as today in May? And I definitely wouldn't have put that on a newborn today. Vest, sleepsuit, cardigan/jacket type thing, blanket & little hat would be fine. x

As for vest under babygrow, think I asked that on here before I had my baby too haha. I always did...since it was July sometimes we didn't bother with the babygrow indoors. First three months or so she never wore any outfits.

Honestly, that sort of thing, it's completely up to you. There's no rules, people do all sorts. I think a vest is useful to keep the nappy in place on tiny newborns. Joni still wears a vest with poppers every day. I never liked the romper suits (or whatever you call the ones like vests but with shorts/footless trousers built in but that was my personal preference.

Never used one and my baby was an October baby so went all through winter without I used to line the car seat with a blanket clip him in and swaddle him but it wasn't the coldest winters this year so didn't see the need just layered him. It's easier when you come inside if they are sleeping you can just remove blankets!

B is an August baby and i used one in winter but havent used it for a wee while unless it was bitterly cold (which is very likely in scotland).

I put a short sleeved vest under long sleeve t shirts or a long sleeved one under a short sleeved t shirt. Hate her arms getting cold!

My baby is a November baby and I never used a snowsuit. She's a warm baby and rarely even wears a coat, just a cardigan and a light blanket in the pram. So no, not necessary at all :)
