will i need.... UK

I used one for my first son who was born Jan 2010. It was a very cold winter and I got use out of it. I kept hold of it to reuse with my second son who was born beginning of March this year and so far I've not had a need to use it.

I can't imagine it's going to be even colder than it is now in May.

I would say no.... My lo was born in March and he wore it once and that was coming out of hospital. We tend to use jackets and cardigans at the minute xx

Lo was born at the beginning of June and he did not need an snowsuit/ thick all in one until October time. I always put a vest on lo under whatever he has on as an extra layer. In the summer he was just in vests and babygrows then if he got too hot could strip him down just to his vest if need be :). I also had a lot of knitted clothes and mil was obsessed with buying him warm clothes in case he got cold but it was 30C when he was born! You are better off having a baby that is too cold than too hot as it is a lot easier to warm them up than cool them down :)

I wouldn't for a May baby. Jenson was born end of sept and he wore them from October until February, now he just wears a coat or a jacket & body warmer if it's not warm out. We've always put vests under any clothes x

I had a Jan baby and never used it. Was just too much of a faff!!

I have a Christmas baby and live in scotland so it's always cold and raining! And I've never used the all in one coat. He is a warm baby right enough but I'm scared of overheating him so find layers to be best :)

I've had a September and a February baby and have never used an all in one coat. They are not safe to be used in a car seat for a start, so I layer up with jackets and blankets if required. You can get real temperature differences when going in and out of shops.

I use vests under clothes as I was always told baby should wear one more layer than you when they are little. So the vest is the extra layer.

I have a feb baby and have used his all in one on two occasions so far! I tend to put him in cardis as they're easier to strip off, especially if he falls asleep in the pram and I don't want to disturb him. I definitely wouldn't bother buying one for a summer baby.

thanks guys, this is exactly what i thought i just wanted to see what others thought. i have been given a few but wont be using them. But when your told you 'should' do or have something u begin to 2nd guess your self.
i also asked my friend about the vest under sleepsuit, she said she always has, again more for the nappy. she once put a sleepsuit on him without a vest and his nappy was 'all over the place' so she said. i really hope its a warm summer here in Leeds, i want to take baby out on walks etc.. have some nice family time as a new family :D x

I never put a vest under a sleepsuit, but jessica only wears sleepsuits at night, when she's then in a sleeping bag. Plus, her room is always about 24 degrees even when the heating is off! (Boiler is in her room). She wears a vest under her outfits though. Last summer I found the little dresses with a built in vest really handy on hot days, not too many layers!

Wouldn't need a coat, ds was born in Jan and we never used one. Was to mild this winter.
I put vest under ds's clothes but come summer when it gets hot I most likely wont or I will only put tshirt over top no trousers. Depends how hot the summer gets I guess
Xx

My lo was born in may and we didn't need one (in ireland). I suppose it depends on your pram, but I really can't see the need in may.

LO is a June baby and I only ever used snowsuits when out in the pram from Nov-Feb as it's bitter here in Scotland.

He always wears a vest under his clothes and sleep suits. The only time he didn't was during the freak heat wave last summer when he slept only in a vest.

I used a thin fleecey pramsuit for both of my babies - born in September '12 and January this year, I doubt you'll need one in May. I use a vest and sleepsuit /babygro and then layer. Even my 18 month old still wears vests. Only time I don't use them is on really hot days.

I'd invest in a gro-egg room thermometer they come with a clothing guide to tell you what lo should be wearing at night time for each temperature range. The egg glows different colours for different levels of temperature.

The best way to tell if your baby is too hot or hold is put your fingers on her skin on her chest or back. As PPs have said layers mean you can quickly adjust baby's temp. My little girl is a boiler and usuly has on one less layer than me ,I'm a total freezer!!

You'll also find that now and for at least the first year of your lo's life there will be no shortage of people telling you what you 'ought' to do. Get to know your baby anf trust what he or she is telling you and listen to your own instincts. And if you've got a question ask it in here!! No shortage of advice normally ...
