Hi.
Iv been offered a 6 month work contract to start in October. I havnt worked since April 2014 due to looking after my daughter. We really want to start trying for our second in December. how would I stand with maternity pay as my contract would most likely be up in April?! Any help would be great!!

You need to have worked for your employer for 26 weeks by your qualifying week (15th week of pregnancy) to qualify for statutory maternity pay, so if you started trying late december and fell pregnant straight away you might meet this condition. However you will qualify for statutory maternity allowance, which is the same rate, if you have worked for any 26 weeks in the 66 weeks prior to birth. So even if you didn't fall pregnant until your last month there you'd still qualify.

As above you need to have worked for 26 weeks up to and including your 15th week for SMP.

Remember MA doesn't include the 90% pay for 6 weeks.

Any way you can ask for a 12 month contract?
