So my lo is 3 weeks old and has had quite bad nappy rash for the last week - I have tried everything (bepanthen, sudocrem, metanium) and nothing seems to help :(

It started out just red but now has some small weepy sores :( but seems very contained and not all over her bottom? I'm hoping to see a doc on mon about it.

I'm worried it might be a touch of thrush (although she shows no signs in her mouth) involved as my nipples have gotten really sore and the last few days the skin is looking a little white? I have included a pic but it doesnt show the white so well :(

Is it thrush do you think or just a case of sore/cracked nipples? Latch seems to be ok, and was told I had good technique so I don't think its that though I could be wrong!

It burns when I start a feed but then goes away, but sometimes I get a burning when not feeding :(

Any ideas? Like I said am planning a trip to docs on monday but just wanted to ask some advice to get me through the weekend as am in so much pain

I'm afraid it does look like thrush :( and the nappy rash sounds quite possibly like thrush too as it does tend to have a specific shape and isn't just randomly everywhere. The good news is if you start treating it early it is easier to get rid of xx

Yeah I thought that might be the case as nothing seems to have worked on her bottom and it's quite confined in two patches and doesn't seem to have covered the whole bottom like I'd have thought! (Never had either with my son so all new lol)

I do think I had a slight rash in the creases between my vagina and legs (tmi sorry) caused by a yeast infection when I delivered her but didnt realise that was what it was till afterwards when I couldn't clear it and gave canestan cream a go (that cleared it up in a day! So seems like the likely cause!)

Am worried now that she picked it up then :( She's had the redness on her bottom for just over a week but the sores have gradually shown and got worse though treating it :( and like I said my nipples have been bad the last couple of days when before they were absolutely fine :(

Defo trip to docs on monday then :(

Not sure if it looks like thrush in your nipples, it's hard to tell in the picture and really hard to diagnose anyway. However since you are in pain and your baby has diaper rash, it's possible it is thrush. I would use coconut oil on your baby's bottom for the diaper rash (it's a wonderful, natural antifungal) and then see what the doctor says to use on your nipples, if they do think it's thrush. We had thrush on and off for a long time, and it was a stinging pain. My nipples were pretty red and a little swollen. They are still sore now, but my daughter has a lip tie and teeth now so her teeth grind down on me the whole feeding :( Think we've only gone a day or two with pain free nursing in our 14 month nursing relationship...

Anyway, definitely make a trip to the doctor. Like the previous poster said, it's much easier to get rid of if you catch it early. I let mine go on to the point where I was crying at every feeding before I saw a doctor. I think that's part of the reason it was so hard to get rid of. Make sure you are washing all of your bras and towels in hot water and vinegar or grapefruit seed extract, and sterilize and bottles or pump parts every night. Oh also, make sure if it is thrush you treat it for weeks after the symptoms go away. Even if you get a prescription for a couple weeks, use a natural antifungal (grapefruit seed extract drops diluted in distilled water is a good one, or coconut oil) for a couple more weeks.

Hope thing get better soon! Feel free to pm me with any other questions about thrush...I unfortunately have lots of experience in the matter :)
