well bf and I went to gp for his SA results. Doc looked at the screen, mumbled something and then said - do you want a copy of this to take to the fertility clinic, we said yes and he handed it to us - no explanation or anything! we then noticed that the results sheet had nothing on it in reltion to figures and there was a note at the bottom saying - NO SPERM FOUND

BF said 'is this negative then?' GP said yes... no suggestions on what to do or anything. We asked for a second referal and he said go see receptionist. Receptionist came back with a sample bottle and said 'put your sperm sample in here.... before she could say anything else bf flipped, there was a massive q behind us and he said 'thats not the procedure, I have to go in person gp should no that'

to top it off a girl was in the q with a crying new born. I just broke down.

so we went on our way with no explanation or anything. i am back at infertility clinic on 1st dec and bf is coming with me with his results.

how can a SA have no sperm AT ALL. surely there would be some, even if the count was low or the sperm were dead.

I think the vasectomy reversal he had in june 06 has failed despite me getting pg 1 month after the op.

bf is gutted and half expected me to have packed my bags!!! bless.

what can they do for a zero sperm count? bf said he wants to see what options we have but isnt willing and cant pay out thousands of oounds for fertility treatment.

i on the other hand cant think straight. can ivf still be performed? will there be sperm present in the testes even if they arent producing? would nhs re op?

god so many questions that noone will prob be able to answer apart from the hozi but i need answers, we need answers

so sorry for ranting

:hissy::hissy::blush::hissy::hissy:

I don't really know what to say but wanted to give you a :hugs:

Oh my goodness u poor things. I don't know the answers to ur questions, but i hope this SA is inconclusive and there is some sperm. However if there isn't and there is no procedure to help u could have IVF with a sperm donor as an option. I'm so sorry to hear ur news :hugs: XXX

is ivf available on nhs? bf does not want any one else sperm, i dont blame him really its not the same.

Yeah u can get IVF on the nhs but the waiting list can be long.

I believe you can have ICSI with sperm surgically removed from your partner's testes. I think the procedure is known as SSR. I don't know if it is available on the NHS or whether it is only available privately. I'll see if I can find anything out for you.

I can't believe doctors and receptionists can be so insensitive. It really bugs me. Go have a huge :hugs:

xx

I found this in the glossary for my clinic. I'm sure you could ask at your next fertility appointment if it's available on the NHS. If not, privately it costs approx £1100 on top of the cost of ICSI treatment - so all in around £5700.

Surgical Sperm Recovery

Where a blockage or absence of the tubes leading to the testes is the problem sperm are not present in the ejaculate. In these cases, minor surgery can be performed to obtain sperm from the reproductive tract, which is then used for ICSI.

Hope that helps. Hopefully, the test results were incorrect and another SA will show some little swimmers, but if not, all is not lost hun. However, if not available through NHS, it may be quite costly.

Great bit of info Maz, i'm so pleased there is another option if the worst case scenario is true :hugs: good luck. XXX

Hey Meisha

Big huge
Maz is totally right - i use another forum occasionally as it's quite informative re male factor and IVF. On it there is a girl who's DH had a failed VR but they were able to take the sperm directly from him and he did have swimmers there.

Totally flipping tactless staff though - i would right a huge letter of complaint!! Your poor BF, my DH would would have been exactly the same.

All help is not lost hun i promise

I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Those doctors need to give you options and no be so insensitive. Lots of :hugs:

 so so sorry about the results and the totally tactless heartless dumb stupid Dr

OMG 5700!? there is no way on this earth we can afford that, we are maxed on cc's and cant get credit because we have just moved house and loaned to the max. unless nhs can help we are doomed.
am devastated. been up all night and now i have to go to work in the courts and listen to pathetic people moaning about there lives being shit because they commit offences and take drugs.
am trying to stay strong for bf but am falling to peices.
thanks for all your replies.

Meisha,

It sounds to me like your GP dosn't really know what he is doing. For a start he should have given you some recommendations. Also hun, I would get it done again soon as sometimes if there is not enough sample given then I think it can come back negative. I remember once my husband did a sample and he had to do it again cos there wasn't enough to test. There has to be a certain amount, your gp should have checked this. Is it possible for you to go and see a private doctor and get an analysis done. There are also some really good alternative clinics out there like marion Glenville and Zita West. I fI were you I would google them and get a second opinion with someone who specialises in this!

My brother had zero count and the nhs wouldnt fund as they saw it as waste of time:hissy: But he saved 3 long yrs for ivf and was operated on in which they managed to harvest 2 sperms and now they have a lovely baby girl and 1 frozen embryo
hugs Serina xxx

hi rachel which website was you talking about where there is a lot of male factors discussed?

i've come home from work today sa i just cant hack facing anyone. my eyes are sore from crying that much and my head pounding. i cant think of anything else but this.

i cant let bf see me like this because its not his fault and he feels bad enough as it is. he seems to think i am going to walk out on him. men, they just dont get us do they?!! lol

Bf requested a second referal for SA but it all kicked off in the surergy reception as the same doc who referred him suggested putting sample in a bottle and taking it to the local hospital when this is not the procedure at all and he should know this because he referred before. There is only one other GP in the surgery and even she is useless. I suggested moving GP's but whats the point. The SA results is just blank and on the bottom in the comments section it says NO SPERM PRESENT, BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT SPERM CAN BE HIDDEN BY DEBRIS AND CELLS... says it all
