I really like the name Summer.

DD1 is called Freya and i think Freya and Summer go really well!

Problem is our surname is Knight.

People i've told said you can''t name her Summer Knight.

But i love the name Summer.

I've tried finding others but it's hard to get it out of my head.

Well, I have to admit that if I met somebody called Summer Knight I would find it VERY hard to refrain from singing the song from 'Grease', but it's entirely possible that so many generations down the line, nobody whose opinion she'll be interested in will ever know that there was such a song!

Oh god i hadn't even thought of that! :(

Same as PP, reminds me of the grease song and a summer night. Sorry xx

I have to agree, its just too tough not to chuckle a little when you hear it, sorry! Could you use Summer as a middle name? Or you could just go with it and know that someday she'll likely get married and have the chance to change it anyway :)

I really couldn't use it, although I do agree summer is a gorgeous name. Our surname is Hill and all the beautiful flower names were out because of it so I understand it's hard to let a name go due to last names

I love GREASE and it didn't cross my mind at all. Plus the children she will be growing up with will not have a clue...

What came to my mind was a lady I used to work with named Cherry Knight...she said people never believed her that was her real name...

I agree, first thing I thought of was Grease and now it's in my head.

I do think it's a little corny to have names that make phrases, unfortunately, and I think people would assume that you chose the name because you WANTED it to be "Summer Night".

Though I do agree that Freya and Summer sound lovely together.

Yeah sorry it's not good. I really like Theodore and nn Theo and told hubby this. He looked at me like I was crazy and said 'you can't do that, people might call him Teddy' I totally forgot our last name, Blair... Teddy Blair... can't do it!

I'm sorry, as much as you love the name... I think it's a no-go in my opinion. :nope:

What if you maybe do a double-barreled 1st name like Summer-Lynn? Summer-Lynn Knight kind of changes it a little. Of course there is still the risk of the Lynn dropping off as she gets older - but as a PP stated she will have a different surname once she gets married.

Oh dang! I would avoid it personally, like others have said I instantly stated singing the song from Grease in my head. I would worry that her peers will know the film, even though it is old, because Grease is commonly performed as a school play so some of her friends are bound to hear of it.

I actually love it! Didn't think of the film at all and even now I think its an ace name.

I think it's a really pretty name too! I am a huge Greece fan and I didn't even think about the song until everyone else started to mention it. I think adults might have a smile at her name if they make the association, but hopefully adults are mature enough not to ridicule her. Other kids her age likely won't ridicule her because they haven't seen Greece. Even if they do it as a school musical, who remembers the plays that they do as a kid? I couldn't sing you a single song from the plays that we did and some of them were well known to my parents but had no importance to me so I forgot all about them as soon as the play was over. If you love it, then go for it!

Plus, kids will find ANY reason to ridicule a kid's name no matter what it is. You might be worried about the Greece association, so you name her something else and the kids at school find some bizarre way to ridicule that name.

I don't think it's bad because of the grease song but because it's summer knight? It's like having a Winter Day or a Jack Russell. Or in my case a Teddy Blair. I just think it's a bit mean!

I love the name Summer and considered it for DD but I really have to say Summer Knight sounds like it should be a name for a bond girl. Plus I think she'd get ridiculed a lot growing up which isn't fair.
Sienna is a lovely name.

I knew a girl in school who's name was Stormy Hail. People chuckled about it, but never really teased her. If you love it, I would go for it :)
