would love your advice ...should I go on clomid next month or wait

I am close to the same age as you and I would wait a few more months and try au' natural.. 39 isn't that old in todays standards.

Has your DR ever sent you for a HSG ? I hadn't seen you mention that..

I know my DR did all that testing before the suggested and fertility drugs.

I conceived my last pregnancy via IUI with 100mg of clomid and Pergeon injectbles.

I have several small fertility issues so IUI was best for us !

hi! thank you for making me few not old :kiss:
I had a sono, which is similar to an hsg I think, with a sono they put a camera into your uterus to look around and they flush out your tubes. my tubes were clear and they found a polyp that I had removed last month.
Im really hoping that the polyp was just in the way, Ive read they act like a natural IUD making the uterus a hostile place for implantation.
congrats on your last pregnancy, so are you trying again?

Have my 3 yr old DS due to clomid and am working on #4. Don't regret it at all. I knew I was needing some type of help because after yrs of irreg periods they had finally become reg at age 33. From my reading- this is a sign of perimenopause. An age and stage where getting a period doesn't always mean ovulation occurred that month and or that egg quality was good. This time around at 37, I have been dx as hypothyroid and so I assume I need all the help I can get.

And now I understand looking back all those yrs I was subclinical hypothyroid. I don't care what my jerk of a gyne said at the time I asked him at age 30 getting your period four times a year is not normal and there is a reason. (sorry for the rant that was pent up thought I was over it long ago lol).

thank you everyone for the lovely responses :flower: after a day of feeling a little down and unsure about everything I feel pretty good now. I am going to try naturally for a couple of months, then the clomid, then the IUI. I did panic a bit after she said to start next month, and then was worrying about my age. but the good thing is my FSH is normal, I seem to be ovulating due to ov sticks and temping, and my cycles are pretty regular.

Im in the 2WW now and going to be calm about this one :thumbup: I dont symptom spot anymore as Ive literally had every symptom and not been pregnant.

wishing all of you waiting for your BFP lots of luck and babydust. It will happen for us, we have to just keep positive and never give up hope :flower:
Hi Sarah,
we've spoken before and i'm in the same boat as you!
I've done the waiting tho....we're off to the FS on friday to start IUI with meds.:happydance::thumbup:
If you want to wait another while to try naturally i'd ask the Dr for a AMH test, shows egg reserve and is way more accurate than FSH as a guide to how much time you can gamble on ur fertility. I got excellent levels which calmed me a bit but i can't keep waiting every month, its killing me...i have to be more proactive now, Nothing wrong with either of us, excellent levels on both sides (and he has 4 kids by ex wife!) but i read alot about things they can't test for that only show up during IVF cycles. So i'm going for 2 IUI then on the IVF. I'm 37 in sept so i'm still a young-one!! but i'm just cheesed off now!! :growlmad::wacko:
I'm 12 dpo today..haven't tested but i want to! just so i can settle into getting my head ready for friday so that i'm not clinging to a last hope that all this ahead will be unnecessary!!:nope::nope::nope:

Yes, we are TTC again. I know our chances are slim of conceiving on our own but it's worth a try !
I have a blocked tube and DH has a low count.
We are going to "Try" till Aug and if we haven't conceived on our own , we will turn to IUI again.
I am just not excited about doing all that testing again since here in Onatrio the "rule" is you have to do all the fertility testing ( SA, HSG, Bloods ect) again after one year !

ooooh good luck, heres hoping you wont even need the extra help FXd.
I will definitely mention the AMH, although I dont have my next apt with her till August, if I want to start the clomid and monitoring I see the nurses not the specialist.
let me know if the witch comes or not, if she does at least you have a plan thats likely to work :thumbup:

i caved and tested!!
BFN of course, tho not FMU and i'm 12 dpo of a 16 day LP...optimism to the last!!:haha:
Of course i'll keep you posted....this site is my refuge...OH means well and is very very supportive but sometimes i need to vent without hurting his feelings that he's not doing enough or all the right things, poor pet that he is!
we went on a day trip out yesterday and ended up spontaneously driving to Cashel,tipperary of all places! stayed in a lovely posh hotel and had a lovely evening of eating and a few drinks. we just needed it , to unwind and have a laugh. Between saving for the treatment and timed DTD and continuous TWWs, its been a bit serious of late:growlmad: Nice to be just in love and loving it :hugs::hugs::winkwink::happydance:

aww that so nice! its important to do things like that. in fact it would be nice to do things like that around ovulation time, the more relaxed the better.

I love ireland, Im grew up in the uk and my first boyfriend was irish so I have a soft spot for the place!! I visited him in galway when I was 18. recently was in dublin as my niece loves the band The Script so we went to the concert.

well good luck, hope the witch stays far far away! remind me how long you have been trying for now?

incase anyone is interested here is my chart, this is my first month temping and I hated it at first but in the boring 2WW Im glad theres something to do.

been pretty calm all week, its next week thats the worst so I hope I stay sane lol

love the Script!! going to see them in June in the Aviva!:thumbup::happydance:
we're 12 months trying now tho i was married before and ttc for 18months with him (he had a non existant sperm count and was delighted about that fact when we found out...need i say more...hence he's my ex hubby now!!)
I think tho that why this 12 months has been hard on me...its like history repeating itself..tho now i'm with a fab fella who is my rock even when i'm a bit loopy:wacko:
my charts always look great, we always hit the good days, ov is regular as clockwork...the only thing i've noticed is that i don't really get any ewcm and only maybe a day of even watery, so maybe thats our problem and the iui will bypass that (been using preseed for about 6 months now..nice stuff but no luck yet!)

haha thats so funny you are going to see them too! they were great, my niece is soooo obsessed with them!
its so frustrating, I think we have been trying for 6 cycles but I had a polyp, and this is my first cycle without it. we were somewhat trying 6 months before that too, but I wasnt tracking ovulation so I dont count that!! I think sometimes it just takes time...think about it, a doctor wont refer to a fertility specialist until a year and thats for young and healthy people so it shows how it just takes time. being over 35 may add a little more time too. I find that Im more calm now, Im so used to getting my period that its a normal occurance, I will be floored the month it doesnt arrive and i get my bfp!!
I think the IUI will be great for you, Ive read at how some womens cm is hostile for the sperm, like the wrong ph or something, to putting it right where its supposed to go might be just the thing for you....lets hope (if this month is not your month)
good luck :flower:

You're definitely right about time:

"Odds of getting pregnant in a given month, by age:
* early 20s: up to 25 percent
* late 20s and early 30s: up to 15 percent
* late 30s: up to 10 percent
* over 40: less than 5%

Number of women who achieve pregnancy within the first year of trying, by age:

* early 20s: 94 percent
* late 20s and early 30s: 70-85 percent
* late 30s: 65-70 percent

Average number of months to conception, by age:

* early 20s: 4-5 months
* late 20s: 5-7 months
* early 30s: 7-10 months
* late 30s: 10-12 months"

And as we know it is perfectly normal that it would take us longer, if we have the means and opportunity to help to increase those odds, why not? It seems like a smart game-plan if you look at it logically.

Thanks Sarah and Indigo...patience is a virtue i know!!
Suffering from foot in mouth disease today...made my dearest feel like we only have:sex: for baby making purposes...hurt his feelings:nope:
Its just i'm obsessing a bit this month cos it was our last chance to go natural...i'm a nurse and am very analytical anyway so i said something about our 'afternoon delight' being great but useless for fertilising..i meant it as a joke....ooops! i'm 12 dpo..he reckons girls get pg when they least expect it. Iknow i can't get pg now! bless him! But i know we always have loads of BD in the first half of the month and the fertile days...i kinda go off it in the TTW (soz TMI i know just venting!!) Its my fault.. i need to make serious efforts to make him feel like i'm not just using him for insemination!!!!

Has this happened to any of you ladies TTC for a long time yet?? How do you guys deal with it???:wacko::shrug:

I think mine is glad for the time off during the tww...and I tend to keep him busier than usual with small projects and honey-do lists...:)

Are you taking your temps at the same time approx every morning and before you do pretty much anything? I ask because ideally the temps should go up probably to somewhere near where your highest point is and stay there. From what I've read a sawtooth pattern in the luteal phase indicates stress. You want the temps to stay high because of progesterone.

Sorry I did not mean to alarm you or anything. I am noticing the same pattern in my charts where it seems rather jagged. If you are feeling stressed the best thing would be to find stress relievers such as yoga, meditation, etc. If not its probably still worth showing your chart to your RE, or GP, or a TCM practicioner to see if they have any recommendations.

Sarah....Your first chart looks good. You have a very clear temp shift and can easily pinpoint ovulation.

hi velo!
I take it at 8am every month, the alarm goes off and hubby turns it off and I just roll over and put it in my mouth! there was a couple of days I was late and those were marked with the hollow circle on my chart. I dont feel stressed this month, in fact Ive made a lot of lifestyle changes which include less work, and I now have weekly massages and pedicures, and I exercise most days. I will definitely be taking my charts to my FS next time I see her. I was hoping that if I have any hormone imbalance that my charts would show that. So you are saying your chart is similar?

I know exactly what you mean, I think right after my ovulation my hubby is quite pleased for a break, just like Indigo said! then he ends up wanting it a few days later, and Im often not really in the mood. We BD'd this morning and he comments (tmi alert) that he has loads of semen coming as we hadnt BD'd for a week and I said 'boooo its at the wrong time'!!!! but he is pretty good about it, it takes a lot to offend him.

I think you will have to make an effort to enjoy BDing other times of the month for the sake of your relationship. For me sex is like exercise....I dont usually feel like it, but once I get into it I love it :rofl:

and what he says could be true....a lot of women ovulate later than they think or twice in a cycle. I know quite a few women who got surprise bfps from late sex, so you never know :thumbup:

I figure the same theory! I never know if I might ovulate a second time so always good to keep up the BD. But its nice in the second half of the cycle I get more mellow about it and don't worry about position, or how long I have to stay in bed, etc... just relax and enjoy!!

Sarah you're exactly like me! So i'm not a complete nut-job!! :wacko::haha::happydance:

And thanks Velo... nice to know we're all in the same boat.

Never knew you could ovulate twice...tho hello, twins!
Does anyone know how that would look on a chart..ovulating twice i mean???
