ok the directions on the formula says to add 2 scoops to 4 ounces of water. So I put the 4 ounces of water in, and then the 2 scoops of formula. Now there is a total of 5 ounces of stuff in the bottle ( the bottle is at the 5 ounce mark). So if Alessa eats the whole bottle, would she be eating 4 or 5 ounces???

I hope this makes sense. It is just her doctor always asks how much she eats and I just realised today that once I add the formula it rises another ounce!! So we always thought she wasn't eating enough, but maybe she is?

I thought about this the other day when i used the ready made formula cartons. I put in the normal amount i make, then realised its actually less than he gets when i make it with powder. Im not sure what the answer is though. Ask you HV or doc next time you get her weighed :D

I count it by how much water I put in (so 4oz in your example). I know it's a bit confusing, but I'm pretty sure that's the norm. (It would just be too confusing otherwise!)

it counts as four ounces :) You always count it as the amount of water that is in before the powder is added

ive wondered this too, as max has six scoops and six ounces of water but the bottle says 7 when its mixed! but i think its still classed as 6 ounces

It's 6 ounces of water before you've mixed the formula. The formula makes it look like there's more in there, but it was still 6 ounces to start with, so you're only giving 6 ounces

but sometimes she just snacks... and will drink a very small amount. So if I mix it and it says 5, then she drinks a little and now it says 4... that would be saying she didn't eat ANYTHING wouldn't it?

hehe thanks everyone!

You just have to use your best judgement and estimate. I write down everything Lily eats. I go by mL (vs oz), and I always tack on 10 mL to help compensate for the discrepancy you're talking about. So if the bottle 'started' with 210 mL (meaning that's how much water I put in), and when she's done there is 60mL of total liquid left in the bottle, I would call that 50mL left and say she ate about 160. Hope that makes sense.
