My family live away so were looking at getting everyone to pay for a meal of there own if they want to have a meal instead of presents etc??

then have an evening due afterwards???

Could work... the meal would have to a reasonable price tho and it would have to be very clear that it was INSTEAD of pressies and you weren't just saying it. x

I think it'd work just fine hun, a lot of my family offered to pay for their own sit down meals if we were going to have one without me even saying anything

I think its quite a good idea! But as above I'd make it really clear that it was instead of presents - You'll always get somebody that will have something to say about it!

We have been invited to a wedding where going to the reception was 'optional' as such...you had to pay for your meal and that.. didnt bother people at all x

I wouldn't have a problem at all paying for my own meal so i'd go for it
