Would you go back doctors?

Aww I didnt know they could do.them so young! Can I ask doctor for that? What do they do?.xx

They took some blood and did a test. Apparently it has a huge chance of a false negative though. Our came back inconclusive and then we had to do elimination diet to figure it out. First we tired lactose free formula and that didnt work( because it still has cows milk protein in it0 then we tried hypoallergenic but it made her sick and then finally soy and it worked like a charm

Yea lactose intollerance isn't very common in infants, it's almost always cow milk protein intolerance.
They can do allergy tests but they aren't very accurate below age 2.

I thought that also but doctor seemed keen on.it being lactose intolerance. I think.if this doesnt suit her then i may just get c&g infasoy to try her on. Xx

Soy formula is not recommend now for babies under 6 months due to the hormones in it. Some babies who are allergic to milk can also be allergic to soy as the proteins are very similar. I would get referred to a pediatrician but better still a child dietition who would fax your doctor to prescribe neocate which has no cows milk in at all and contains the correct vitamins etc, I understand your Lo had blood in poop? my Lo did and both pediatrician and diatician said to not give him soy till he's 1.5 yrs old because he could be allergic to.it or if he isn't could cause allergys. If a referral is taking to long just turn up at a and e, this has worked for several people I know who got saw by a paed and got given the correct milk. Gps will not prescribe neocate without referring you first ad its so expensive x

Dpayne is totally correct hun; the NHS strongly advises against soya for babies under six months and it is only advised to be used in cases of inborn lactose intolerance which is very rare and would cause failure to gain weight from the start-and there are more suitable formulas for that available now anyway, or in cases where the family are strict vegans and for ethical reasons don't want to give cows milk formula but for CMPI soya is not ideal; it can trigger off a soya allergy and soya allergies are linked to other legume allergies-including to peanuts. Some studies have shown an increase in peanut allergy in babies who were fed on soya formula. My son was allergic to cows milk formula (he had it once and reacted badly) and to any dairy or animal milk products via my breastmilk as well; I did first start having soya alternatives but at 8 weeks he started reacting horribly to those as well until he had one pooey nappy that was just full of stringy, very bloody, mucus, needless to say I ditched all soya after that also and he was back to normal again.

Your doctor isn't correct saying that specialist formulas lack certain vitamins etc; some do lack certain fish oils and fatty acids added to normal first milks, and more recently comfort milks-however these are not nutritionally required and were only allowed to be added to formulas in the UK since 2007 (despite some companies adding them since around 2002 anyway), many of the specialist formulas due to them being 'pre digested' and broken down so the body tolerates them better; the vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins and carbohydrates in them are absorbed more easily than regular formula-so please don't worry about that. xx

It must be different here in Canada because here soy if perfectly fine for baby's under 6 months. My daughter has never developed a soy or peanut or any other allergies and her cows milk intolerance is starting to go away now at 13 months like the doctor said it could. The soy formula I have has the added fish oils anf atty acids and all the vitamines and nurtients a baby needs.

Thanks ladies if the lactose free doesnt work i will ask for cows milk.free and go see paed. Just wanna get her sorted. Bit dangerous that can buy soya milk.freely from supermarket! Xx

Its just like you can buy LF (lactose free) from some supermarkets; doesn't mean its advised for general use. Same with hungry baby too. Yourstruly, that may be the case in Canada and no-one is saying babies who have soya are guaranteed to get peanut allergy but the UK has recently changed their advice re: soya formula and since they could actually save a lot of money just telling parents to use soya; it can only be they have issued the advice because of genuine health concerns

No I know that I just find it a bit bad that it is so readily available.

I have fetched lo formula from chemist i thought it was just lactose free but it says hupoallergenic formula for managemenr of cows milk.allergy soya (protein) allergy and lactose intolerance so seems it covers both allergies suspected. Fx'd it works.

Xx

Yes its a bit irresponsible of them to just sell it in the supermarket; I feel the same about LF as the manufacturers intend it for use in temporary lactose intolerance and only on medical advice as lactose is important (though not essential-so don't worry) to brain development and to just use LF because it makes baby 'less fussy' isn't a good enough reason to lose out on that. I hope the specialist formula works for you! xx
