BTW sorry for all the questions i'll probably be asking today.. its like before i go to bed i think of them... then when i wake up whatever i remember i come to ask you girls lol
No an OBGYN is a doctor that you go to only when pregnant. They do the same types of things midwives do, check that the baby is ok, schedule scans, check the heartbeat, check your weight etc. and most (if not all) deliver the baby as well.
i use myself a OBGYN because she can take care of all my routine exam for the year and also deliver my baby !
i did a lot of research before i pick her to make sure i was confortable but i have to say i love her !
Yeah I don't think you can do both an OB and a midwife. Look around, talk to different doctors (you may even be able to schedule consultations with one of each) and than decide what is best for you.
Hmm well they do things a bit differently here in Canada. Our GPs normally do all of our papsmears etc. unless there is something wrong, than we get referred elsewhere. I was only referred to an OB after I got pregnant! Just goes to show that things are done so much differently in different parts of the world
They are all doctors but a Gynecologist is a doctor who specializes in the medical brand of Gynecology. "The branch of medicine dealing with health care for women, especially the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the female reproductive organs." An Obstetrician covers the surgical care for you during and after pregnancy.
A Family Practice Doctor or General Practitioner is your usual family doctor or doctor that takes a look at you for regular check ups etc. They may send you to a specialist for further analysis, that's where doctors such as gynecologists, obstetricians, dermatologists, and other specialists, come in.
Also, a midwife is more like an assistant for you during and post pregnancy. They are not qualified to preform medical treatment and procedures like your gynecologist or obstetrician. They specialize in prenatal, child birth, and postnatal care.
