Have you tried contacting breeders? First you should figure out the breed of dog that's right for you and speak with an experienced breeder. They'll be able to pick you a good puppy. Also most breeders will ship so it doesn't even need to be a breeder in your area but shipping depends on the time of year as some airlines won't ship animals if it's too hot or too cold.
I'd suggest paying a little extra for a thoroughly health tested purebred dog as the cost of the dog is nothing compared to all the related expenses... Especially if you get a sickly dog, they'll more than make up the purchase price in vet bills.

Try gum tree, or ask around your friends xx

when you say bigger are you meaning labs or retrievers. I breed jack russells, but even to get a cross breed you will have to pay these days. Farmers are probably best for las or spaniels if you dont want to pay loads, collies are quite cheap but very energetic and bounce all over. If you have any pets at home stores they sometimes have notice boards. Remember though some dogs can suffer from dodgy hips and bones so make sure the parents are hip scored. It really depends what breed you are looking for as where to look, remember to ask all the questions. If you need anymore advice pm me and I'll try and offer any advice I can

Mongrels are the best type of dog in my opinion :D. Less inbreeding health issues, better natures and if you can get one from a dog shelter then one less on the street :D. You can get puppies from a shelter.

My mum has 2 jack russels and a jr mutt. The mutt is the better behaved out the lot of them !

Hope you find one soon. I'm trying to persuade the OH to let me get one :flower:

some rescue places have puppies in cheack out your nearest RSPCA
Most people charge alot so they know its going to a good home your best place is gum tree or pets at home have a sale section where people can post for sale .
My local area has a facebook page where people can sale animals aswell puppies are usually about 250+ though the days where you can get puppies cheaper are gone im affaid because of all the mistreating of animals

Springer spaniels are the best dogs ever I'd so recommend one. Just love them. Try gumtree or see of there is a pet selling page on Facebook in your area. Hope you find your wee cutie soon x

Don't buy a puppy from a breeder, go to a rescue center there are so many dogs desperately needing a home in those places, and some do have puppies now and then where the dogs have been abandoned.
I only buy pets from rescue center's.

why does he want it for cheap?

Dogs may be cheap to buy but they are not cheap to keep!

Be careful you dont buy into the back yard breeder industry.

If your OH is worried about cost then you need to sit down and work out how much the dog is actually going to cost you on a monthly basis.
We have a springer spaniel (gorgeous dog but very very lively!) and i would say that she costs us around £70 a month and that's without the extras caused by visits to the vets etc that aren't booked!! We recently spent £100 as she had an ear infection!

I personally would rather go somewhere that i know what i am getting. I love the idea of getting a puppy from a rescue centre but you don't always know what you are getting. If you are getting a puppy you really should be able to see the mum and dad of the pup.

we got a dog and she ended up having hip problems that we did not know about. We did get a rescue so we knew the risks but what I mean is we paid £150 donation to rescue centre for her so she was cheap but omg she costs us a fortune!. x
