xanax..

I take amitriptyline (sp) 75 mg at night to help me sleep. I was recommended this by a consultant psychiatrist at a maternity hospital here in Dublin. Previously, I was on seroxat and something else I can't remember as I suffer from depression and anxiety and when I told my GP about trying for a baby two years ago, then having a m/c at 7-8 wks, she recommended I see this psychiatrist who agreed with taking the above. I discussed this with my GP when I became pregnant again as whatever risks outweigh the benefit of me actually sleeping. I'm now 15wks+3 and am hopeful, but I think that if your doctor knows you are pregnant and determines that the level of medication is appropriate for you (and you alone), that is the most important thing at all. I think mellybelle and alaura9 are absolutely right - we're scared enough not to be stressed about other people's reactions! and kudos to both for their honesty!

best wishes

Maddy.... I understand your concern as I was on klonopin till 4.5 weeks pregnant and weaning off was horrible! At the start of my second trimester I got horrible panic attacks and have given into taking klonopin prolly five times. I took 1.5 mg of klonopin a day before I found out I was prego (equivalent to 1.5 mg of Xanax). I told my doctor my concerns as it can cause cleft palate and such. He scheduled me for a 4d ultrasound at this high risk hospital, maybe your doctor will do the same to ease your concerns. My ultrasound is today and I will let you know how it goes, hopefully the baby is perfectand healthy... I would love nothing more! Please keep me in your prayers all as I'm quite nervous! Xxx

Not sure if people continue to follow this thread but I will post anyways:) My scan went very well today (as I mentioned above). The baby is just perfect and wonderful with no cleft palate, club foot, etc. The high risk doc told me that klonopin/xanax causes around 1% of abnormalities in babies whose mother's take the drug while pregnant. The study is brand new and just came out in August. Of course there are many other studies done but he has the most recent. He told me that if I were his daughter he would not be concerned at all and after the first trimester malformations such as cleft lip, do not form. The doctor actually gave me the study and feel free to message me with any questions! XX
