I have a HUGE family but this year with me being on maternity leave i cant afford to spend all the money i usually do on them so i was thinking about making little hampers for them with homemade shortbread and decorated biscuits and little tiny xmas cakes.

Does any one know any really good tried and tested recipies for xmasy shortbread and biscuits??

:flower:

I'm doing this too :D You should invest in Nigella Lawsons christmas book. She has loads of recipes in there and most of them are YUM. Its a great book. Heres one I made last year and they were delicious.

Mince pies are so easy to make and dead cheap. Just make pastry up, and get a jar of mincemeat for £1! You can make 24 mince pies for about £1.50 lol

Millionaires chocolate is a yum one too...

what a great idea, im a rubbish cook tho but think ill give this a bash also, was going to try my hand at xmas cards too, I made my own wedding invites last year and have tons of stuff left over.

will have a look and if I find anything ill post it here

PS. our lil guys have the same name, except other way around we hav great taste hehe :D x

 we were thinking about putting alex 's name the other way round .

2 other things that go down really well and dont cost much - hand and footprints painted and dated of the children and framed AND a photo of the children framed.

I made these jars of christmas muffin mix last year :

its great if you cant actually cook yourself as you layer up the mix in a clear jar (looks pretty) tie a ribbon and wooden spoon on the top and write the details of how they make the muffins themselves on the side. These went down a storm last year!

:)

its not a cake / biscuit idea but if u go in home and bargain they have these little snow globe things and u put pic of LO in them, im sure they were £1 each, ive got loads lol
