So I thought I would save myself some money by buying all the Yankee Candle Christmas votive candles, testing them now, and only buying large jars of the ones I actually liked, thinking surely there would be a few that were a bit iffy...

No. :dohh: I love them all. There are now ten candles that I really can't narrow down. the only thing that can save me from a £180 candle bill now is availability, please god nowhere have them in stock!!!!! :help:

I was the same a couple of years back...bought lots of jars, only to discover burning them left walls and ceilings black :( now stick to tarts which smell so much better, and they are cheaper xx

OMG I am sooo glad it's not just me! I bought the jars and was silly enough to use them on bookcases - BIG mistake as what I couldn't see was the underside of the shelf directly above the candle was absolutely caked in soot!! I stick to tarts now

I only use the tarts now as well though sometimes I use the candles if someone else buys me them  Tarts make the whole room smell lovely for ages I don't think the candles give the same effect.

Oooh, have never heard that about the jars! At the rate I go through candles (always have one on when I'm in) that would be a whole lot of black marks! :xmas1:

Ahhh it's really terrible, they're all lovely, and there's one for every mood I could be in!! I want the Christmas Tree, Christmas Memories, Sparkling Snow, Happy Christmas, Winter Wonderland, Sparkling Cinnammon, Cherries on snow, White Christmas and Red Berries and Cedar. The one I might manage to eliminate is Christmas Eve, because I think it's the name I like rather than the smell :haha:

:haha: lets hope there is not one that get you in the mood :sex::haha::blush:

What are the tarts?

I think I'm the only one here that really doesn't like the look of the Yankee candles!

My large and medium jars are on glass shelves, the shelves above them get covered in black soot but easy to clean

I know it sounds silly but I am so relieved to know others have the soot issue. I have spent years thinking I am a complete plum for getting my shelves covered in soot!

You're not the only one. I can't get excited about them either. It doesn't help that I'm wary of having anything like that in the house while Ryan is small. Maybe give em a go in a few years when he's older if they're still going :haha:

I only noticed a few days ago as I had another Yankee on the shelve above and thought it was the bottom of that :dohh:

I had never had a Yankee candle til DH bought me one on Mother's Day. I was hooked after that!

I love yankee candles and use the tarts mainly, a cheaper way to get a variety of the smells!

Silly question, but... how long do tarts last? Do they sort of evaporate? Can you take one out of the burner and change it to another one ones its set again, or is it kind of stuck in there till it's finished?

Also, I've narrowed down my candle list by one... last night something about winter wonderland was making me feel so sick I had to put it out and go and lie down, just something about the smell really turned my stomach! :xmas22:

I think they last forever - weeks and weeks. I guess it depends on how much you burn them but 9 times out of 10 I change the tart due to boredom rather than the fact the scent has gone. If you put the burner in the freezer the tart will pop out really easily and if you like you can save the tart to use again :)

That would save a lot of pennies replacing candles then! Hmm, roll on maternity pay on tuesday... :xmas13:
