...
I gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Lily Anne on 21st December 2013 at 5.08am after 9 hours of regular contractions and just 8 minutes of pushing! (my last labour was 38 hours from waters going-birth, 37 hours from start of contractions-birth and 1 hour 5 minutes of pushing)
It started on the 19th, I had mild period cramping on/off all day and assumed it was my body gearing up. When I woke up on the 20th I still had them and they were coming every 5 minutes or so but they stopped after a few hours. Around 6pm they started coming every so often again and by 8pm they were coming more regular. I started timing at 9pm where they were coming every 5 minutes lasting about 30 seconds, these made me stop what I was doing for a second as they were getting quite painful. I phoned the midwife and went down just before 11pm to get checked out.
I got to the hospital and they had started to ease off, the midwife said I can have an internal if I wish so she can see what stage things are at. Baby's head was very low but my cervix was closed! I was expecting to get sent home but after the internal I started getting contractions again so went to the sitting room in the maternity unit and got a TENS on. After a couple of hours they were coming every 2 minutes, around 3am I got in the bath for some pain relief and managed 3 hours in there, I got out and managed a few more contractions without any pain relief but soon needed gas and air. My OH arrived soon after (he was at home, 30 minutes away with no car) and I just kept going with the gas. Midwife said if I go do a urine sample she will examine me after, so off we went to the toilet and I had a huge contraction sat on the toilet and my waters went (4.50am) by this point my contractions were coming every 30 seconds or so, the midwife asked another to go and bring the bed from the delivery room into the room I was in so I got on that bed and again after a few, I had a massive contraction and suddenly shouted 'I'm pushing!!' - I was NOT expecting to be near that stage yet! So I pushed on a mix of no pain relief (I was so busy screaming that I forgot I had gas and air!) and some gas and air, 8 minutes later she was out, I was shaking like mad because she had come so quick, but I looked down and had to ask the midwife 'what is that?' when I looked to see if she was a boy or a girl because I couldn't quite believe that I had a girl!
I am so happy with how things went, not one complication! I had a horrible, long delivery with DS, ended up with an infection and he was delivered by forceps but should have been an EMCS. I can't believe I got such a perfect birth after that!
Her big brother is so interested in her and will stand at the moses basket and stroke her hair Although he has already offered her lots of food She's so content, hopefully she stays that way, she barely cries and even when she does she is so quiet!
Anyhoo, I'll stop now, thanks for reading if you got this far!
