Your opinions on bumpers?

We had a breathable one when she went through a short stage of sticking legs through bars. I never got a bed pack anyway as we didnt like duvets for risk of pulling over head so dd had grow bags until she got a proper duvet when she was about 12 months and she usually kicks that off. I wouldent use a normal bumper

They are considered very dangerous due to the suffocation risk, why they are still being sold is beyond me.

With that bring said I am a child protection worker and when I inspect a crib, and they are on, they need to be removed and all loose items need to be put of the crib.

I have them on my daughters crib. She didn't sleep in her crib until she was old enough to roll away from them (around 6 months). The one time I sat her in her crib without them on, she stuck her legs through within seconds.I have them stuck down the side of the mattress so they are just sticking out far enough so she can't stick her arms and legs through when sleeping.

I'm so thrilled to see a thread with so many women aware of the risks. None of my friends seem aware at all. An acquaintance lost her son to what was decided was SIDS, even though he was found with the tie from the bumper down his throat. He was old enough to be mobile, sit up etc, hence he had decided to play with the tie, so they're a risk both when they can roll over and press their face into them and not roll away, and older as well. The fact that they are banned in several states suggests there is enough evidence that they are a risk to convince me. I always remember that there was solid evidence for nearly 10 years that babies are safer sleeping on their back than their tummies before the British government changed their advice and when they did SIDs deaths dropped from over 2000 a year to around 300.

Never used them, think its crazy that stores like mothercare sell them even though the advice is not to use them. But then, they sold me a moses basket with a duvet in it that said not to use on babies younger than 12 months. Crazy.

We did use Airwrap when she started getting her legs through the bars but it's not considered a risk.

Exactly this, and it provides a false security for those who decide to use them b/c "I bought it at such and such store..."

I think I will stick to just sheets. And maybe swaddler or something. As the baby gets older, I'll get a bed set. No bumpers of course.
