"You're not ill, just pregnant"....

I believe pregnancy can cause Illness, while not an illness itself. Would you tell someone who is having Chemotherapy that it was just a side effect and therefore they werent really sick from it?!

ive had colds, back ache, insomnia, vomiting, exhaustion, constipation.. the list is endless... yes im pregnant but its making me ill... xx

I think Blah11 realizes that health complications can occur from pregnancy that would be identified as 'ill.' It is simply her opinion that the usual bout of morning sickness and pregnancy symptoms shouldn't be blown out of proportion. At least that is what I am getting, which I think is fair enough. :)

^ exactly.

Theres a girl at work who is 17 weeks and the most pathetic pregnant person ever. She has the teeniest bump ever and you'd think she was carrying an extra 100lbs on her abdomen with the way she holds her back as she walks :dohh:

well goodness knows what people were thinking of me today then lol

I had surgery on monday due to pancreatitis so all last week i was really ill and then surgery on monday. im obviously pregnant, its twins and I have SPD and im a little over 17 weeks.

But had to have another scan (they thought one baby may have died as a result of the sugery) so went in today, i was waddling, holding myself as my stitches are pulling (my belly button isnt stitches due to bump so it tears and bleeds a little when i move too much), I was feeling faint, dizzy, hot and emotional!

hell knows what anyone seeing me must have thought, i obviously not full term or anything so you wouldnt expect me to be in the amount of pain i was, but i was in a huge amount of seats.

Any why oh why are hospital seats the most uncomfy in the world:dohh:

B****cks!!!

I'm ill! And if I was this ill for this long and I wasn't pregnant, I'd be in hospital.

Just thrown up for the second time this morning, so not in a particularly great mood.....

Sorry for the rant

Hun, has your doctor said you are suffering from hyperemesis? My SIL is suffering from this and she is 2w ahead of me (so 23w). With her first baby she was proper sick every day from the very beginning to the very end and this pregnancy seems to be the same. She's lost a significant amount of weight but she is determined to stay out of hospital. She can't even keep water down (but bizarrely CAN keep down Coke Zero!). If she gets any worse she WILL be hospitalised and re-hydrated. If she wasn't preggers then she would be hospitalised as it's not normal. I've been very lucky *touches wood* and barely suffered from ms, just the odd queasy feeling, but I've seen what it can do to other people. Please see your doctor and explain how sick you feel - they might be able to do something (especially if you can prove you've lost a lot of weight because of it).
I hope you feel better soon chick :hugs:

I do get what you're saying... I feel horrible-- AWFUL from about 6 weeks until about 14 weeks or so. It's like having the stomach flu.... every day... all day... On a particularly bad day around 8 weeks, my hubby said, "Why don't you call in from work if you're feeling so awful..?" and I said, "I can't call in every day for the next 6-8 weeks, so why call in today?"

So maybe that's the point she was making... was not so much that you're not allowed to feel like crap, but that you have to accept that you'll be in this condition for quiiiite a while, so if you don't find a way to live your normal life it'll be a lonnnnng pregnancy.... and that women who are having a perfectly normal pregnancy but still act like invalids from the moment they get their BFP give us a bad name, particularly in the workplace.

HOWever... I think the OP's original 'spirit of the post' was just an innocent, fed-up rant about how much it sucks to feel this way, :flower: ...and how nobody who hasn't experienced it can possibly know what it's like.

... and honestly, even though I go through it every time I'm pregnant... I forget how bad it is until I go through it again (and then I ALWAYS say, "I'm NEVER doing this again!!! This is my LAST ONE!!" :haha: ... and then I have another...)

Hyperemesis Gravidarum is an illness caused by pregnancy and believe me if any of you have had it, you would gladly swap it for 'morning sickness' - its a condition that requires medication which not all the time works anyway. So therefore in some cases the word illness is the right term!

hyperemesis isn't a normal pregnancy so idk why you keep bringing it up? No one has said that hyperemesis isnt an illness.

'Hyperemesis isn't a normal pregnancy' - I didn't say hyperemesis is a pregnancy, i said it's a pregnancy 'related' illness so get your facts right and also see above I said in SOME cases -get your facts right before you speak OK!!

Awwww come on, girls... Let's not pick on semantics. We all know the OP just meant to say that she's sick and tired of being sick and tired, and Blah11 was only saying that she subscribes to the idea that pregnancy is a state of health with rewarding benefits at the end.
No one need get upset... Sometimes these threads get crazy.

Fair enough but I think there are some petty people who like to analize what other people say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you don't agree fine no need for criticising what other people have to say

Pregnancy can be very tough at times, but before you know it it'll be over. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! :hugs: I sympathise, I had morning sickness from 6-16 weeks and lost a lot of weight. I battled with it myself but in hindsight I should have asked for medication!

Now I'm battling with round ligament pain, backache, heartburn, needing to wee every 20 minutes and the occasional sickness/nausea  it's not fair that I'm feeling this shit at the end but it won't be like this forever and we get the most amazing gift out of it

:hugs:

I don't have anything as serious as hyperemesis - I can keep water down so it's not too bad. Honestly, I was just having a whinge about how crappy I felt and how I was fed up of feeling this way.

I'm not offended by anyone telling me to suck it up - I know I'm being precious! I can't help it though - I feel guilty for whingeing myself so I know it must look to others. :dohh:

For instance, halfway through writing this post I've had to run upstairs and be sick. Nasty enough, but I've got nothing on my stomach, and everyone knows how unpleasant that can be......

It sucks, my MS came back around 14 weeks and stayed til about 18 weeks. before that i had it from week 5 til week 12. It was never bad enough to get medication, but some days i couldn't keep water down. I just tried to drink as much as i could, even though i knew most of it would come back up 5 minutes after!

Then from week 12, even though i had no bump, my knees started to give way due to sciatica, so that left me walking like a waddling idiot as it was the only way i could find a firm footing most of the time.

I feel so bad for ladies that have HG, really hope you all feel better soon and that the end is near!! xxx

It's horrible because I think if you haven't experience being severely I'll during pregnancy it is hard to understand. While I was Ttc I use to say all the time I can't stand people who complain about ms its just a beautiful reminder that your pregnant and then being through it myself and I am almost 18 weeks and still suffering I have a lot of sympathy for those people. I couldn't keep down anything not even water!! Tried everything lost almost 7 kgs in the space of a week and a half and was given injections and hospitalized at one point. I think that some opinions that are along the lines of suck it up is the last thing you want to hear when you are starving because you have thrown up all day but can't eat because you bing it up anyway. Yes we are pregnant and yes it is all a part of it but some women to suffer alot worse than others as well other women having higher tolerance than others we are all different and I don't think anyone has the right to be rude or put an opinion out there that comes across nasty it's bad enough feeling down and sick without that on top maybe those kinds of people should just stop posting on this thread and leave it for the people with kind opinions

Well i havent had anything as bad as HG or surgery due to pancreatitis, both really really terrible and i feel for you all! However, about a week after i got my BFP i was feeling really under the weather, couldnt get out of bed, literally could not lift my head off the pillow, dizzy spells, fainting, anyway, turns out i was anemic so was given vials of iron to take as well as my Pre nats, started feeling better, then shortly afterwards my m/s started, i didnt throw up but i was indroduced to the toilet bowl to retch several times, just started to feel better from that then last week suffered from diarrohea, vomiting, terrible stomach pains, i couldnt stand up straight, turns out i had stomach flu, ive just recovered from that although my tummy is still really sore, im dreading to see what may come next week !! So all in all, i havent really had chance to "enjoy" being pregnant yet, even though i LOVE it and i know feeling great will come, at the moment so far ive just felt ill!!
So there!!!

H&H nine months to all of you lovely ladies

xxxxxxxxx

 seriously one of my pet hates

Suppose that's me aswell then?
I have a trapped nerve in my ass that makes me feel like someones got a rod from bottom of spine right into thigh and it kills!
Nothing to do with bump weight, how do you know she doesn't have this?
