After getting married last month we received some money instead of wedding gifts..

We agreed to buy all the baby stuff with whatever we received and we are down to our last £100, what essentials do you think we should get with the last bit of dosh we have left in the kitty ??

I'd like to get a few essentials that I maybe haven't thought of..

Need some help!!

Uhm well it depends what you have already brought, but nappies, babywipes, bathing essentials, have you got stuff for your labour bag? You could also look at getting that with the money you have left

Baby wipes, more nappies, nappy sacks, Breast pump + Brest pads + Nipple cream (If breastfeeding) Bottles, teats, fomula, maternity pads, nightie for hospital, baby bath, car seat, Grooming kit (Brush, baby scissors ect).

That's all I can think of for now :)

if you list what you have already i can give you some tips

I went through a mothercare catalogue i picked up in the shop the other day and started to make some notes and list types of things we'll need.and there is lots!!:headspin:

Just wading through that catalogue item by item let me know exactly the things i hadn't thought of previously and some things i didnt even know existed!!
Thats given me the start i need now to find out all the best prices online etc.

Muselin cloths for when you are winding baby, helps to stop your clothes getting covered in baby sick! I would keep money to one side for after your baby is born, will come in handy!!!

Ok heres what I've got so far:

Decorated the nursery
Nursery Furniture
Bedding for the cotbed
2 blankets
1 Teddy Bear
Moses Basket
Car Seat
Toy for the car seat
Pram
An electric Steriliser
7 bottles
A breast Pump
An electric thermometer
7 Vests
3 Sleeping Babygrows
A few oufits in a few sizes
Angel Care Baby Monitor set
9 bibs
3 muslin cloths
2 feeding cloths (those over the shoulder things)

I think thats it so far... Theres still loads to get as well.. Oh my god babes need sooooooooo much !!

Nappies, wipes and cream seem a popular choice...

In my baby book it says you should have about 70 nappies ready in newborn size..

Wowsa 70 is a whole lotta nappy..

Anywhere doing buy one get one free offers lol

Yah, buy a savings account :) These baby's grow so fast, and there might be something in 6 months to a year that you want for him/her. There you've got the cash right on hand!

I was surprised at the number of people that gave me 12mo old clothing with DD1... I was a little like "whatever" and put them away knowing I couldn't use them... but I realized how much it helped to have some of those clothes on had when she got older, (she was in them by 9 months) and I was grateful to have them. I would think the same would apply to toys or kid furniture or whatever. They don't stay immobile babies very long! :)

Yeah, they tend to give u the mothercare book now instead of charging for it

Yeah its true, alot of the stuff im buying I wont use for long and it will go up in the loft for baby number 2... And its expensive stuff.. But alot of it is stuff I have to get though, while I have this gift money I thought it was best to buy the stuff I'll need to buy anyway.. Saves it coming out of my wages..

Or am I wrong and should I have saved it all... :(

Its up to you what you do with your money honey, I worked out I still gotta spend around £250 before we have everything we need, and I didn't even realise until last night lol.. I'm going to get the rest next week

Certainly if it is things you'll be using for siblings, it's all gotta get bought in the end anyhow :) I think you did right by purchasing stuff with gift money.

My only point was to mention that first year goes by VERY fast, so a couple hundred (dollars or pounds) would be beneficial down the road and one less infant gadget is maybe prudent... but it is entirely your call!

I remember a US commercial for discount disposable diapers where the mother is speaking of how we want everything for first babies (the best of premium diapers, etc.) But she realized by the second or third child, that the discount diapers were more affordable and they did just as good a job.

I tend to be a minimalist mama. I cosleep, have minimal umbrella type stroller (pram), and very little baby equipment. I splurge on baby skin products though as they have very delicate skin... but that is ME. You need to do what is right for you and your family!

Don't sweat the small stuff :) Enjoy that baby~!:cloud9:

I think you are doing great! You have most things that you will need straight away.
What about a baby bath? Im not going to get one this time, Ill get one of those bath supports from mothercare to go in the big bath.

My advice is to save the money until baby is born, it's then that you will realise the things you really do need!

I was told to get enough nappies to last whilst you will be stopping in but after that get them as you get low as LO's grow so quick they could be in the next size before you know it, so saving it for a rainy day when you do need stuff may be the best choice

I have bascially got everything plus more - I am so addicted to baby clothes and shoes stuff on ebay only new stuff of course...................

The only things I have left to get is the

-baby carrier £19.99 from toys r us
- Baby milk - i am breast feeding but just in case

- Nursing bra

babys hospital bag is all ready packed. I need a few more bits for my hospital bag.
