this story is soo sad. My heart goes out to the mother.

Such a tragedy :nope:

I want to know how a one week old baby was in reach of a jack russell though....

^ nooo was hoping no comments on breed would be mentioned!!! It does not matter on breed. :(

They are naturally pretty nippy. You can't escape the natural characteristics of breed.

It's not what makes the whole of a dog obviously but certain breeds have different behaviours. It's been bred into them for hundreds of years

I have a Labrador because in general they are nice family dogs, they tolerate children pretty well, are easy to train. People seem to attribute good things to certain breeds but ignore that they also have built in tendsncys which can be bad.

Most blind dogs are golden retrievers surely that's because because they are easy to train, you could try and train a king Charles spaniel exactly the same t you wouldn't get the same results.

I'm not against any breed but I do think it makes sense to accept that some breeds have more aggressive tendancys

Of course any animal can snap but some are more likely too and of they do they are more vicious about it

So tragic :( Such an upsetting story. Rip little baby xx

The only dogs i've been bitten by are labs.

RIP little one.

Yep Labradors are statisticaly the most common biters but it is very rare for them to attack.

My old lab bit once, he was in pain and approached the wrong way. All dogs are capable of course

As the owner of a loving soft staff i refuse to typecast dogs.
However i have never met a Jack Russell that wasn't abit nippy. Not always in a nasty way but yes nippy.
I do wish people would realise no matter how much you love/trust a dog, never leave one alone with your kids. :nope:
Poor family, must be absolutely awful.
The DM as per usual have digged so much deeper than they needed to, taking pictures from the Moms twitter and FB etc.

Irrespective of breed when are people going to learn

Sorry to sound harsh as obviously the family are devastated but it is not the first nor will it be the last time that a family pet has attacked a child

People need to learn that animals are unpredictable and should never ever be left alone with young children or within reach of babies. I have heard so many people say 'oh they wouldn't hurt anyone' but seriously you never ever really KNOW

Such a preventable tragedy

But you don't know what happened. The baby and dog might not have been alone, it could've just happened so quick.

It's very insensitive and unfair to start passing judgement on the circumstances surrounding it when we actually have no details of what happened. Such a terrible tragedy.
