1 week old killed by Dog.

Such a tragedy :nope:

I want to know how a one week old baby was in reach of a jack russell though....

He could've been in a car seat on the floor, or in a bouncer, or rocker, or whatever. It doesn't necessarily have to be a lack of care in anyway.

But you don't know what happened. The baby and dog might not have been alone, it could've just happened so quick.

It's very insensitive and unfair to start passing judgement on the circumstances surrounding it when we actually have no details of what happened. Such a terrible tragedy.

Wich is why I said within reach of, you say it could have been so quick, this is why these opportunities shuld be prevented in the first place. I also commented generally about this and many many other instances

I don't recall Ozzie saying lack of care, and tbh dogs should not be able to be within reach of babies in car seats on the floor or in a bouncer or rocker.

This exactly, unfirtunatly its just the stark "reminder" (i know the family are hurting, please don't think im heartless :() that dog owners like me need to realise its NEVER ok to leave babies with dogs, no matter how much you trust them :(

Sorry hun my comment wasn't exactly directed at you, more of a general answer to all the posts.

No, I know she didn't say it was lack of care, but the fact that the baby being within reach of the dog was called into question, is obviously insinuating that the parents fell short somehow, and I just think it's really easy to sit here and say "tut tut" but we don't know what happened and the timescale around it.

I just find it sad how people are so quick to blame the parents when I'm sure they're devastated enough without people wagging their fingers at them blaming them for the death of their son.

My babies are always with me pretty much when they are small but it can take seconds for things to go horrible wrong.

I think every dog over will have been on a situation where a dog could have hurt a child. I have sat on the sofa with newborn on my lap and a dog nearby, it would take seconds for them to snap abs hurt baby so unless this baby was left alone with s dog then I think its unfair to judge the parents

That's exactly what I was trying to say kala, you make more sense than me :haha: :flower:

What we do know is that another innocent baby has lost their life because of a "beloved pet". I hope the law soon extends to private land too.

Yeh I dont think its parent fault or breed fault. I have heard of lab bites in the papers this year too. It always hits home and news harder when it is a child/baby I think :( I dont think any dog is more dangerous and I wouldnt put the parent at fault!

I have grown up with dogs and all our family members have dogs of various breeds (mainly bull breeds/terriers) so our children will always be around pets but all our dogs do is sleep :/

No, I want to know more details. That was my question. I've worked with dogs and I know when a dog is getting fearful or aggressive. Kala is right. All the terrier breeds I've worked with, while loving, can be nippy.

What law? x

Ive had 3 JRTs none of which were even remotely yappy/nippy however my current Chihuahua is a nightmare & I wouldnt trust him for a second to be unsupervised so these character traits are not always breed specific

I can't stop thinking about this poor baby & how heartbroken his family must be  RIP baby Harry xx

It is very sad and a very tragic thing to happen. But it is human nature to reflect on something and think what we may do differently. I don't think anyone feels these parents were bad or deserve what happened.

^ chis are far worse in general for nipping as I think they are very owner protective!

I just think this is a sad tragedy, blaming breed nor parents will not help :( x

I have a Labrador because in general they are nice family dogs, they tolerate children pretty well, are easy to train. People seem to attribute good things to certain breeds but ignore that they also have built in tendsncys which can be bad.

Most blind dogs are golden retrievers surely that's because because they are easy to train, you could try and train a king Charles spaniel exactly the same t you wouldn't get the same results.

I'm not against any breed but I do think it makes sense to accept that some breeds have more aggressive tendancys

it is how they are raised, I have four jack russell terriers which are not nippy in the slightest, I also breed terriers, and can definatly say its the way they are raised

If a dog attacks in a public area the owner can be prosecuted. I know recently someone got let off because the toddler wondered into his garden

I think somehow that law would be unfair. ETA: I mean to punish someone on private land.
