Hi All,

I have managed to get through my really sensitive nipple stage of pregnancy but I am having real issues with one side. I can't work out if DD's teeth are responsible but when she latches onto the right nipple I have to keep getting her to come off and try again. If I gently squeeze the aureola behind the nipple, I can feel the "pipe" inside and it feels hard and swollen and really painful.

Has anyone experienced anything similar and do you have any tips?

Cheers
Emma

Sounds like it's a clogged duct. Have you had them before? Do you know how to treat it? If not, search KellyMom. There's some great info in there for treating clogged ducts.

Thanks TigerLady, I have had them before, usually on the side of a breast and massage, concentrating feeding on the area, etc, has eventually helped them to go.

This could be a clogged duct, I suppose, quite deep in the breast. It certainly eases the longer DD is feeding which is something I definitely relate to clogged ducts. I didn't consider it because the location is so different and I don't feel like there is an area of engorgement.

I feel a bit odd asking my Dr if I can see the breastfeeding specialist after 18 months of BF without even realising there was a specialist at the surgery, but I think I will next time I see her!
