2/5 engaged what does it mean

rachel - baby is starting to make its way down :)

shambaby - what can they do for you about the extra fluid?? induce you early?? whats cord prolapse?? is this your first baby aswell??? i have been told im measuring small and that i will be having a small baby, was given steriod injections last week to mature baby's lungs incase i go early.... and today they said head was engaged, hope my baby stays in another few weeks at least...xx

yep, first baby so he should be getting engaged about now! not much they can do about the fluid, but induction is an option that has been mentioned - seeing the consultant next thursday to make a plan. cord prolapse is when the cord comes down in front of the baby's head, and can come out into the vagina. VERY scary, and basically cuts off the baby's blood supply if it happens. it's really really rare, and can't happen if the head is engaged - even just a little bit - as the cord can't get past the head, but extra fluid and a high head makes it more of a possibilty. even worse if the baby is not at least head down, in which case i would have been admitted to hospital 'just in case'. as it is, if my waters break, i will be STRAIGHT in to the hospital, possibly even by ambulance. scary stuff
