2 yo asking for milk again

DS has been very gradually reducing his feeds where we got to the point where he was bfing about once every 2/3 days.

Some mornings he'd ask, some he wouldn't, some I'd offer, some I wouldn't, sometimes he refused. Anyway, it was very gentle and gradual.

He hasn't had a full feed since the 14th December - he didn't ask and the few times I offered, he consistently said No, so I thought we were done.

However, the last few days he has been asking again. He'll latch for a few seconds but come straight off again. He asks me to squeeze my boob until a few drops of milk appear - he'll then drink those but will not suckle for anything! As I do squeeze, there are significantly fewer drops than I used to get, so I'm guessing my supply is virtually gone, though this does seem quick?I can still get a couple of drips though (more on right.)

How do I handle this? Not let him try and tell him it's all gone? Let him try? Then I get upset when he doesn't get anything! Is there a way I can get my supply back for him? Or is this just a few days phase thing and he'll have forgotten all about it again by tomorrow?!

He asked again this am and I just distracted him. Any other extended bfers got any advice on this one?

Sounds similar to my son as he went almost a whole week without a feed and then started every few days again. At the moment he tries once a day but it is for less than 5 seconds as they are pretty empty (I see a little white milk but not much at all really!). He doesn't seem to get upset that there is no milk so I'm not really sure what to do, I figure he will eventually stop trying. I tell him the "milk is gone" but he still likes to try sometimes. I assume it is still a comfort thing to know that they are there?

I really have no idea so hopefully someone else has some experience they can share.
