I went to see my consultant for the first time yeaterday and was measured for the first time. I'm 24 weeks but im measuring 27 weeks -I'm having identical twin boys. Does this sound normal ? Or is it something I need to speak to my midwife about ? The consultant didn't seem worried

I wouldn't worry if your consultant isn't worried.

When I was 24 weeks I measured 32 weeks but some days bump is huge & others small, I suppose it depends on how they are lying too.

Xx

My midwife said its normal to measure about 4 weeks ahead of what you are when pregnant with twins!!

It just threw me - I hadn't even thought about measuring bigger - d'oh ! But I guess it makes sense considering I'm having two babies !
I was really shocked when they told me that, especially since everyone constantly tells me how small I am !
I had a scan today and they are both head down, so I don't know if that makes a difference?

Hi, 2-3wks ahead is completely normal, and from 24wks you can be several weeks bigger than a singleton lady ;) x

Mine don't bother measuring, no point, I get scans anyway to pick lip any growth or fluid problems. Today I was a patient for students to practice on and they all measured me and we all laughed each time as there is no point. It's nice seeing how much bigger you are though. But one measured me at 50 weeks, the other at 44 and the other at 39 LOL so its s poor indicator anyway.

It sounds normal. I've gotten measured 3 times, each 2 weeks apart. I measured 21 weeks (at 16 weeks), 28 weeks (at 18 weeks), and then 26 weeks (at 20 weeks). My doctors have told me all along that this method isn't very reliable. So either way, it's not worth stressing over.

Just make sure you're not in any pain. At 18 weeks I was measuring 27 weeks (singleton size) and felt a lot of "stretching" on the right side of my abdomen and my belly was tight as a drum. I went in for an US and they found the fluid levels were off. Baby A had 11 cm of fluid and Baby B had 2 cm. I was diagnosed TTTS and had to have surgery. All turned out well and both babies are healthy, fluid levels returned to normal and the pain in my belly went away and my bump reduced in size a bit. My Dr said every woman measures differently depending on body type, but you shouldn't feel any unusual pain. I am sure you're in fantastic hands, but dont be afraid to ask if the fluid levels are ok for the babes. My OB/GYN assured me at 8 weeks I would be crazy to worry about TTTS and at 18 weeks it was a confirmed diagnosis by an MFM specialist. Needless to say, my OB felt like crap afterward and has since learned to listen to his patients a little more. Good luck, and keep us all posted!

BTW... I only see a specialist now, so when I say "my Dr" I mean someone who specializes in multiples and high risk pregnancies. Not the original OB, he was canned the day of the diagnosis. LOL

Sounds normal to me. I was only measured once by a student at 24 weeks where I measured 28 weeks as was told there was no point and I had growth scans every two weeks anyway.

The consultant made him do it to show when you might suspect multiples if you didn't have ultrasounds. xx

I measured weeks ahead the whole time..Normal, and great!

Thanks everybody ! Nice to know I am sort of normal ! I feel really well, and the two weekly scans are showing that the boys are growing really well so I don't feel too worried
